Like us all, Madonna has a message for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – forget Canada, move to New York City instead.
In a bizarre video filmed by a male friend and posted to Madonna’s social media on Tuesday, the singer reached out to the couple who announced their decision to stand back as senior royal members last month. ‘Don't run off to Canada, it's so boring there,’ Madonna says thoughtfully as soft jazz plays in the background and hairstylists and assistants bustle in the background.
‘I'll let them sublet my apartment on Central Park West,’ she continues after a pause, eyes lighting up as though she has only just had the thought, to which an off-camera friend gasps.
‘It's two bedrooms, it's got the best view of Manhattan, it's got an incredible balcony – that's gonna be a winner, a deal breaker’ she continues. ‘Buckingham Palace has got nothing on CPW.’
‘It's better, that's for sure,’ agrees her male friend.
‘Better than a bunch of guys in woolly hats,’ adds Madonna, referring to the Queen’s Guards outside Buckingham Palace – a comment that has caused ire among her British fans, given that Harry and Meghan’s official UK residence is Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, roughly an hour drive from Buckingham Palace.
Posted on Instagram and Twitter on Tuesday, 4 February, the star captioned the video: ‘Do Megan and Prince Harry want to sublet my apartment on Central Park West?? ............... #madamextheatre#thelondonpalladium [sic]’.
It remains unclear whether the royal couple will take Madonna up on her generous, if slightly peculiar offer, but it’s sure not to be the last offer of help they will receive from across the Pond. Since announcing their split from the royal family in January, Meghan has signed a voice over deal with Disney, is reportedly looking at properties and agent in LA, and has been shown interest by Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos, whilst Harry already has plans to team up with Oprah for a mental health documentary.
Currently though, it is reported that Meghan and Harry are considering a $21 million, waterfront mega mansion in West Vancouver with stunning city-to-sea views, so we wouldn’t be surprised if they do turn Madonna down – despite tales of her enviable balcony.
