Love Island’s Yewande Biala{ =nofollow}will give evidence to MPs, who are investigating the effects of reality TV, on participants. Chris Williamson and Marcel Somerville will also appear before the digital, culture, media and sport committee - a cross-party committee of MPs appointed to scrutinise the Government - as it discusses ‘representations of race, gender and body image and contestant preparedness for life after Love Island' today.

The phenomenally popular reality show has been under more scrutiny since the deaths of former contestants Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis{ =nofollow}. As a result, this year, ITV bolstered their after-care process, offering a minimum of eight therapy sessions to each Islander once they return home from the villa, with proactive contact being kept up for 14 months after the series ends.

This year’s Amy Hart previously told Grazia{ =nofollow}that she cannot fault ITV for its improved after-care, saying, ‘I’ve got 14 months of therapy guaranteed, but if I need it afterwards I can still have it.

‘I can’t fault the support. People have had a lot of bad things to say about them and they might have upped the after-care, but it’s the same team who’ve worked on the show for five years. I don’t agree with the criticism – they are amazing.’

MPs will also hear from The Jeremy Kyle Show guests Dwayne Davison and Robert Gregory.

That show was cut by ITV in May following the death of participant Steve Dymond, who died around a week after reportedly failing a lie detector test on the show.
