One 'nude' shade does not fit all...

With brands like Christian Louboutin and Naja lingerie creating styles to match a diverse spectrum of skin tones, the fashion industry is gradually starting to recognise that when it comes to nude, one shade definitely does not fit all. However, it's still very much a work-in-progress, as Kim Kardashian's latest blog post has highlighted.

For her appearance at the De Grisogono party at the Cannes Film Festival last week, Kim chose to wear a dramatic two-part gown, custom made by Lan Yu Couture, which consisted of an intricate beaded dress with open sides, worn over a skin-tight 'nude' slip - which is where things started to get problematic...

As Kim explains on her site, 'We had to try to darken the nude mesh dress under the silver layer, because it was too light to match my skin tone.' Not to be daunted by trying her hand at some last minute DIY, Kim did just what you'd do in a stressful situation - made a cup of tea. Sort of.

'We had just two hours before we left for Cannes, so we put Earl Grey tea bags in a sink and put the dress in for about 30 minutes to dye it,' she added. Glam.

The drama didn't end there, as according to Kim, 'it took right up until the red carpet for it to dry [...] We had to blow-dry it right before I put it on and it was still a little damp — but it worked and it made the mesh a better match to my skin tone.' See, even Internet-breaking megastars blast their soggy clothes with a hairdryer before heading out...

While we're pretty intrigued as to which brand of tea Kim K prefers, the star's near-miss proves just how far the fashion industry has to go when it comes to re-defining 'nude.'
