Kate Middleton has just revealed a brand new member of the royal family for us to coo over - Prince George and Prince Charlotte's pet hamster.

While attending the opening of the Magic Garden at Hampton Court Palace, the Duchess explained that the furry friend in question is named Marvin, and spends his happy days in the Cambridges' family home, Amner Hall in Norfolk.

According to 9-year-old schoolgirl Darcy, the Duchess 'said she had a hamster, named Marvin, and Charlotte really likes it because the whiskers always tickle her face.' If only Marv had made an appearance in the adorable new photos of the Princess, released last weekend by Kensington Palace to mark her first birthday...

Marvin is the latest addition to the Cambridge menagerie: the young royals also own Lupo, a black cocker spaniel.

The Duchess, who chose to re-wear a lilac dress by London designer Roksanda and a blue coat by Michael Kors, also revealed that Charlotte's older brother Prince George might be 'a bit scared' by the new playground's 25 foot dragon sleeping dragon.

While she may be married to the second in line to the throne, it appears that Kate isn't too fussed about titles. When asked 'Are you the princess?' by one child, she replied 'Just call me Kate.'

This evening, the Duchess will visit the National Portrait Gallery to view her new Vogue cover portrait, which appears as part of the Vogue 100: A Century of Style exhibition.
