When it comes to family, it is a sad fact that tragedy often has the power to heal rifts. This certainly seems to be the case with the royal family. After the death of Prince Philip, disputes between Prince Harry and his older brother Prince William may be set to be resolved. A royal source said has stated that 'William and Harry have managed to speak on the phone' in recent days, and 'they very much agree that this week is absolutely about supporting the Queen, the rest of the family and commemorating the life and legacy of their grandfather.' But it seems that it is Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Harry's sister-in-law, who will be the peacemaker in the situation, with The Telegraph stating that she is 'hopeful of a resolution.' This is not hugely surprising: Kate and Harry have long been close.
In a 2017 profile in Newsweek__, we were given major insights into Harry and Kate's close relationship. They have, after all, known each other for almost two decades: Harry has known Kate since she first started dating William back in 2003.
'There was no one filling the hole left by Diana’s death, and Harry seemed to be growing up without someone emotionally available he could lean on,' the piece reads. 'Kate has helped fill some of that gap. When she and William got engaged, Harry called her the big sister he never had. He often pops into their apartment at Kensington Palace, where she cooks him a meal – roast chicken is reportedly a particular favourite.' That tidbit seems to have been confirmed since then: Harry and Meghan were roasting a chicken when they decided to get married.
Harry and Kate reportedly share a love of Game of Thrones boxsets, with the Daily Mail previously describing the Duchess as Harry's 'lynchpin,' helping him out with everything from 'cookery lessons' to 'sensible romantic advice': indeed, Kate was one of the first family members to be introduced to Harry's girlfriend, Meghan Markle.
An insider told the Daily Mail that the Duchess is a big fan of Harry's laidback attitude and sense of humour. 'Kate has quite a different relationship with Harry than she has with William. Harry appeals to her sillier side because he is carefree, footloose and loves banter,' they said. 'He finds things funny about people and says so.' This humour was best displayed one Christmas when Kate is reported to have given Harry a 'Grow Your Own Girlfriend' kit. Naturally, this was before Meghan was on the scene.
There's also the fact that Harry is clearly a doting uncle to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Remember when George couldn't work out why Harry was on his best behaviour in front of Barack and Michelle Obama (because he's used to his uncle being much more mischievous)? Too sweet.
