There was one film which was unanimously snubbed at the Oscars. Cats. You remember, that film that people didn’t even hate watch because it was panned so spectacularly by critics. So obviously, it made sense when Rebel Wilson and James Corden were presenting the award for visual effects for that they dressed up as their characters from the ill-fated film. Duh.
‘As cast members of the film Cats, no one better than us understands the importance of good visual effects,’ they hilariously told the audience at the Dolby Theatre. Oh, and they even played a game of bat the mic, much to the delight/horror of the Academy. (The award? That went to 1917.)
We can’t lie. It’s kind of giving us nightmares. But some people saw the funny side of it. ‘Imagine being in a movie everyone made fun of and said “screw it we’re taking over” I love James Corden and Rebel Wilson,’ someone tweeted. However, some didn’t see the hilarity. As one person said, ‘Imagine, wanting to win an Oscar your whole life and you finally did, having @JKCorden and @RebelWilson dressed as CATS to give you the award.’
Billie Eilish also didn't look best impressed, as she grimaced from the audience.
But it’s not the first time Rebel has poked fun at the film. At the BAFTAs, Rebel, who was wearing a contrast black and red sequin dress from Prabal Gurung, joked while she was presenting an award, ‘The red is from that one time I didn’t win Miss Australia. And the black is from a funeral I just went to for the feature film Cats.’ As if it wasn’t clear enough how much she regrets starring in the film, she added, ‘Cats. Strangely not nominated for any awards. Even in this best director CATegory.’
