A Royal Wedding Documentary Is Coming Soon

If the prospect of a defiantly cheesy Lifetime movie based on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship to date hasn’t quite satisfied your need to consume endless royal wedding #content in the run up to the big day, here’s some good news: a new documentary that promises to reveal what goes in to planning an event on the scale of the forthcoming Windsor Castle festivities is set to air on ITV in the run up to May 19th.

Titled Invitation to a Royal Wedding, the one-off documentary will, according to Variety, ‘delve into what goes into planning a royal wedding, featuring interviews with people behind the scenes and those with first hand experience of organising events on this scale.’ So, ideally we’re hoping for vox pops from the Queen’s corgi trainer, Meghan Markle’s unofficial stylist Jessica Mulroney (wedding dress hints, please?), the less-than-pleased bridesmaid from William and Kate’s Buckingham Palace balcony tableau and perhaps Fergie, the Duchess of York, who may or may not have landed an actual invitation to a royal wedding.

Sadly, none of the above are particularly feasible, but we imagine it’ll be well worth a watch anyway. Oxford Films, the production company behind the doc, have form when it comes to making well-executed and insightful royal features: their last royal documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, aired last year, and featured exclusive candid interview with Princes William and Harry. Other productions include A Very Royal Wedding, which aired to coincide with the landmark 70th wedding anniversary of the Queen and Prince Philip last year, and Our Queen at 90, both of which were broadcast on ITV.

The channel is yet to confirm an official air date for the documentary, but with the wedding now less than two months away, royal fans surely won’t be left waiting too long. In the meantime, you’ll find us re-watching back episodes of The Crown...
