To mark 20 years since Princess Diana’s passing, tonight ITV will show a new documentary, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy.

The 90-minute film, made by Oxford Film and Television, celebrates the life and work of Diana, Princess of Wales and includes clips of both Princes talking candidly about their beloved mother.

To celebrate the documentary Kensington Palace took to Instagram to share three unseen photos of Diana, William and Harry.

‘The Duke and Prince Harry are pleased to share three photographs from the personal photo album of the late Diana, Princess of Wales that feature in the new ITV documentary,’ the caption wrote.

They also posted two preview video clips of the Princes talking about memories of their mother.

The documentary will be shown on ITV1 at 9pm tonight.

Princes William and Harry will celebrate the life of their late mother, Princess Diana, in a new ITV documentary that promises to give new and candid insight into their family life, emphasising her spirited sense of fun and vitality.

In the first clip from Diana, Our Mother: Her Life And Legacy, which will air on ITV later this month, the Princes can be seen leafing through a family photo album, and recalling some of the happiest moments from their childhood.

‘Believe it or not, you and I are both in this photograph, you’re in the tummy!’ William says while showing his younger brother an image of his mother holding him whilst pregnant.

‘This is the first time that the two of us have ever spoken about her as a mother. She was our mum. She still is our mum,’ Prince Harry says in the short promo. ‘And of course, as a son I would say this, she was the best mum in the world. She smothered us with love, that’s for sure.’

‘She was one of the naughtiest parents,’ he adds.

William also highlights his mother’s sense of fun, and also alludes to her awareness of life beyond the Royal Family. ‘She was very informal and really enjoyed the laughter and the fun. She understood that there was a real life outside of Palace walls,’ he says.

While other recent documentaries have chosen to delve into the late Princess’s private life, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy is shaped around contributions from the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry, who will pay tribute to the ways in which Diana’s influence has shaped their own lives, and the causes which they have chosen to champion.

According to Jo Clinton-Davis, ITV’s Controller of Factual, the new film ‘will offer viewers a fresh and revealing insight into Princess Diana through the personal and intimate reflections of her two sons and of her friends and family, many of whom have never spoken before, to bring together a definitive portrait of a unique person who touched the lives of millions.’
