Dani Dyeris passionate about a lot of things, and you can find many of them listed and discussed in her book. ‘What Would Dani Do?’ was published last April, and contains enough wisdom from the now-24-year-old to merit the strapline ‘My guide to living your best life’.

Dani’s best life, it seems, is one without tap water. This week, the Love Island 2018 winner appeared on Good Morning Britain, where host Kate Garraway pressed her on one theory in particular: ‘One of the things that struck us was that you said, “Don't drink water out of the tap because that's how the government is going to kill us.”’ Good one, Kate – worth a follow up, for sure. ‘Are you seriously dehydrated?’, she asked.

After reassuring viewers that she wasn’t dehydrated ‘at all’ (phew!), Dani explained the backstory to her tap-water veto. Laughing, she implied that it was a fear of water-borne illness which keeps her away from the faucet: ‘I used to study history and I learnt all about cholera - now it sounds so silly - and I just thought, if that disease could kill that many people, how has it changed?'

‘I know it sounds silly, I sound really stupid, but I just can't drink tap water’, Dyer continued. Kate pressed on, clearly keen as any of us to resolve the mystery. ‘So if you think the government was going to kill us you think tap water’s the way they would do it?’, she asked, while co-host Ben Shepard chimed in, ‘That’s quite a conspiracy theory’. Sure is, Ben! But Dani stuck to her guns – ‘'Yeah I believe in it, I'm so passionate’, she replied. ‘I feel rude if I go to someone’s house I will drink it, but I'm looking at every mouthful.'

Quite where the government enters the equation remains a bit of a mystery, though perhaps it’s a they-could-if-they-wanted-to kind of theory. Presumably there’s more detail to be found in the book itself – but failing a cover-to-cover recital, those keen to Do As Dani Does can feel confident in a bottled-only approach whilst bolting down a gulp or two from the tap in company. After all, there’s no excuse for bad manners.
