Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have retained their titles as the most admired people in America, according to the results of the annual Gallup poll.

Clinton has now taken the crown 16 years in a row taking her total of wins up to 22, a record amount of times in Gallop history.

Obama has now been named the most admired man 10 times, trailing only Dwight Eisenhower, who earned the distinction 12 times.

Clinton beat Michelle Obama by just 2% this year, and the other women to follow included Oprah Winfrey, Angela Merkel, Queen Elizabeth II, Kate Middleton and Beyoncé Knowles.

In the men’s category Donald Trump came second with 3% less of the vote than Barack Obama. Since the poll began in 1946, Trump is one of only a handful of Presidents of America not to win the top accolade while in office .

Other men recognised included Pope Francis, Bill Gates and The Dalai Lama.
