Ariana Grande Debuts Dramatic Post-Breakup Haircut

Bye-bye ponytail - or should we say 'Thank U, Next'?

It seems that Ariana Grande has decided to say ‘Thank U, Next’ to her iconic long ponytail… for now, at least.

Yesterday, the singer shared a photo on Instagram which appeared to show off a newly chopped, shoulder skimming long bob (or lob, to use one the beauty industry’s favourite portmanteaus) that’s a drastic departure from her usual long (and very, very high) pony.

Remaining nonchalant about this dramatic makeover, Ariana instead referred to her choice of bunny ear filter in the post’s caption, writing ‘This filter took my eyebrows away but I promise they’re there.’ Right, Ari. Like your eyebrows were what’s really got everyone talking about this picture...

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Ariana has bid goodbye to her signature look forever. There’s a strong possibility that the singer has merely decided to get rid of any hair extensions and give her own hair a bit of metaphorical breathing space (heavy extensions can, after all, compromise the hair’s condition).

Indeed, the star, whose latest single has charted at number one on the Billboard 100, recently joked about the effort of constantly wearing a high pony in a Twitter interaction with fellow singer Camila Cabello. When the former Fifth Harmony member tweeted stating 'I just did a high ponytail for the first time and it's literally pulling on my BRAIN ITS [sic] SO PAINFUL' before asking - in full caps lock, no less - 'HOW DO YOU DO IT @ArianaGrande?' Ariana simply replied: 'well u actually have hair so that prolly makes it a lil more painful ..... nah jk i’m in constant pain always and don’t care at all.'

Whether this is a real-life post-breakup chop or just a brief hair extension hiatus, we love this look from Ariana - and judging from the wave of positive comments below her post, it seems that her fans do, too.
