A 'lob' hair cut, that's a long bob for the uninitiated, is a perennial classic for a reason. Flattering on all, simple to style and with little upkeep required, this easy breezy look continues to reign supreme.

Loved by a whole host of A-listers, the lob has garnered two new celeb fans of late: Julia Roberts and Chrissy Teigen. Julia debuted a shoulder length wavey look courtesy of her longterm stylist Serge Normant while Chrissy sported a Scarface inspired sleek bob complete with fringe.

Julia Roberts

Julia's longtime stylist, Serge Normant cut her hair into a long wavy lob. Approximately three inches shorter than her recent Oscars look, it's the shortest we've seen her hair in years.

Firstly, what is a lob haircut?

Lob = Long Bob. It falls anywhere between the bob and mid-length hairstyle categories, which conveniently means less salon visits, too.

How do I style a lob haircut?

The lob is just long enough that it doesn't restrict you from switching up your day-to-day look. There are plenty of hairstyles that you'll still be able to achieve once you've gone for the chop. From Olivia Palermo’s impossibly glossy locks to Jennifer Lawrence’s super-stylish lob, we’ve got the best examples of the hair trend all in one place.

What is the best lob haircuts for a round face?

General haircut wisdom will tell you that longer hair suits rounder faces; a lob is a flattering style that works on any face shape - softer than a blunt bob, it can be worn soft and layered or razor sharp and sleek.

How can I curl a lob haircut?

When it comes to styling your lob, we love soft beachy waves (a la Diane Kruger and Emma Stone), so tong your hair after drying and leave to cool before brushing out curls for more subtle movement throughout. Adding curls will also shorten your lob and inch or so, so it's great for maintaining that perfect lob haircut length in between trims.

Soft waves are also the most modern take on the lob haircut trend. To give your curls and waves a more natural, dishevelled vibe, brush out your locks and then sptiz hair throughout with a texturising spray like salt spray. Tip your head upside down and rub your hands through it to add extra volume. Do this whenever your locks fall a little flat.

If you want a glossy, sleek style, make like Olivia Palermo, Jennifer Lawrence and Rose Byrne and blow-dry your lob using a large round barrel brush and finish with a spritz of shine spray. Or try the slicked-back wet look a la Kim Kardashian.

And if you're still on the fence with a lob haircut, have you considered a classic bob?.
