We don't get to see royal romantic re-union's very often - but according to recent rumours we might be witnessing one in 2019, as Fergie and Prince Andrew have reportedly re-kindled their former relationship (somebody call the same people who made Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance pronto - we feel a lifetime movie coming on).
According to royal correspondents (ITV Royal Editor Chris Ship was the first to call it) the former Duke and Duchess of York are now said to be 'back on', after recently completing several official royal visits overseas together, marking the first official royal engagements that Fergie has undertaken in 25 years. A spokesperson for Fergie recently insisted they were 'just good friends' but in recent days, reports of a reunion between the couple have persisted.
During their visits, Fergie and Prince Andrew also took a trip to Bahrain together, where the were hosted as official guests of the Bahrain Crown Prince in the £900-a-night Ritz Carlton Hotel. In fact, eagle-eyed Instagram users might have spotted this already as Fergie recently posted a family snap to her feed from the Bahrain Grand Prix that also featured Princess Beatrice and - yes - a tagged Prince Andrew. (the evidence mounts)
Royal sources have described the relationship as 'friends with benefits' and stated that it's an open secret in royal circles. According the Sun, neither Fergie or Prince Andrew have recently been romantically linked to anyone else, meanwhile last year, Fergie said of her former marriage to Prince Andrew that they 'never really left each other' and that they are 'the happiest divorced couple in the world'.
While Fergie and Andrew chose to remain living together following their separation - at their official residence Sunninghill park until 2004, where they raised Beatrice and Eugenie, then in Royal lodge in 2008 - this would mark their first reunion as a couple. In 2013, Fergie said 'He’s still my handsome prince, he’ll always be my handsome prince, We really believe in being good parents for our girls. In our every day, we really respect each other and we honour each other.' while Princess Beatrice has previously called them 'the best divorced couple I know.' (did we mention they also appear on each others Instagrams all the time? cute)
It's been reported in the past that Fergie was disapproved of by both Prince Phillip and Prince Charles (Prince Phillip was said to have been the most irate over the scandal surrounding her separation from Prince Andrew in 1996).
However royal sources have said Prince Phillip now 'doesn't care' if the couple are back together. In fact, the only person who is less happy about the rumoured re-ignited relationship, reportedly, is Prince Charles. A source told The Sun 'Charles is not OK with Fergie. He can’t stand her in reality. He thinks she’s brought embarrassment to the Royal Family in the past and his relationship with his brother has been strained as a result. They don’t get on personally. There’s so much baggage because he feels she sided with Diana over Camilla all those years ago.' adding 'The fear with her is that she will never stop promoting herself and looking for ways to make money off her royal position.'
The Duke and Duchess of York originally met as children through the connection between the royals and Sarah Ferguson's father, Major Ronald Ferguson who was the polo manager for Prince Phillip, and married five years after Princess Diana's wedding to Prince Charles in 1981. While their relationship has had it's ups and downs (they're separation followed publication of compromising photos with businessmen John Bryan and Fergie at the royal holiday residence, Balmoral) the couple have always remained on good terms, raising Beatrice and Eugenie as a family unit.
While not everyone may be too excited about a rumoured reunion between Fergie and Prince Andrew, we're all for this royal relationship throwback. (Has anyone secured the @yorkroyal Instagram handle yet? @sussexroyal you may have competition...).
A History Of Royal Snogs - Grazia
Prince Charles and Princess Diana
In 1985 Princess Diana presented husband Charles with the loser's prize after he was defeated by his opposition at a Championship Polo Match, and just like Meghan, gave him a kiss too.
Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson
Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson shared an intimate moment at a public engagement in 1986.
Prince William and Kate Middleton
This is the now-iconic picture of William and Kate kissing on the balcony at their wedding which we so hoped Meghan and Harry would recreate – alas their wedding took place at the smaller St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, not at Westminster Abbey. The picture was photobombed by young Grace Van Cutsem who found the crowd far too loud.
Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist
And it's not just British royals that enjoy a public snog, here are Swedish royals Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist on their wedding day in June 2015.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Last but not least, Meghan and Harry's public smooch as she presented him with the trophy after he won the Sentebale Polo Cup in Berkshire in July 2018.
