We’ve seen glimpses of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby since he was born on the May 6th. Him all wrapped up at the first birth photo call, the cutest image of his feet just a few days later on Instagram, and now the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have added to that adorable family album with a picture of Archie holding Harry’s hand in a Father’s Day tribute.

For Harry’s first Father’s Day, the couple shared a black and white image of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor clinging to his dad’s finger, staring into the camera. The artsy shot however, has been criticised by online trolls who demand to see more of Archie than just glimpses of his face.

‘I like the Royal Family, but this picture is a slap in the face!!’, one user commented, ‘We understand you want to keep him out of the public eye, then don’t post any pictures. Posting the top half of his head is a slap in the face to your followers....get a grip, your brother who will one day be king, has shown pictures of his three children. Why is your kids anymore special?’

With many trolls comparing Meghan and Harry’s decision to maintain more of their child’s privacy to Prince William and Kate Middleton, the post has so far received near 35,000 comments. People asking why they’re choosing to ‘hide’ him, accusing them of ‘game playing’ and asking if there is something ‘wrong’ with Archie.

Of course, it goes without saying that this kind of behaviour is completely abhorrent. Regardless of whether Meghan and Harry are public figures, the choices they make about the privacy of their one-month old baby are no one else’s business. There’s a reason they chose not to reveal any details around the birth, that they didn’t petition the Queen for Archie to become an HRH and why we’re yet to see any full pictures of the baby.

Clearly, they want their son to live as normal a life as is possible within a Royal Family, away from the preying eyes that not only plagued their relationship but Harry’s entire life. After the endless criticism he faced as a teen in the public eye, and the torrents of racist abuse Meghan Markle has been subject to since dating him, can you blame them for wanting to maintain some semblance of privacy?

It seems that, rather than ‘gameplaying’ by sharing covered up images of Archie, they’re actually just giving the public what they clearly want – pictures of Archie – but in a way that allows them to feel more comfortable about their child’s private life. And regardless of why they’re doing it, or whether you agree with it, to be frank it’s no one else’s business but theirs. Archie didn’t choose to be born into the Royal Family, and whether they’re public figures or not, their child has every right to privacy
