Who is Yoga With Adriene?

Adriene Mishler, known more commonly by her online moniker, Yoga With Adriene, is big news in the yoga and YouTube community. With over 5 million subscribers on the video platform and 527k followers on Instagram to boot the Texan-born is nothing short of an Internet sensation.

Her videos are easy-to-follow and enjoyable, and unlike a lot of yoga tutorials that involve hours of navel-gazing, she focuses her practice on mindful breathing, body-healing stretching and pain relief. Her tutorials are less about hitting poses in a rigid manner, and more about learning to connect your body with your mind; an hour with Adriene becomes the time when you can strip back, let go of the stresses and worries of day-to-day life and become fully immersed in you.

Her charm, wit and playfulness is what makes you want to roll out your yoga mat and stay there, and the mat quickly becomes a safe place where you can completely shut off from the world. Her videos are for everyone, whatever standard, expertise or age and there is no exclusivity or judgement. One of the benefits of practising at home is that you don't need to keep up with a full class of yogis, but can tailor the session to suit you (and hit pause when you need to).

The way Adriene guides you through your practice in a personal, friendly and knowledgeable manner is what makes your trust for her grow with such momentum. When instructing you to move into the next position in a sequence, Adriene, in her wonderfully comforting Texan drawl, will end the instruction with, ‘whatever that means to you’, urging you to digest the next position at your own pace and comfort, opening up a space where you can find integrity in your movements.

With videos that cover everything from stretching muscles, easing back pain, strengthening abdominal core, as well as bloating, period pains and heartbreak, Adriene is a master at helping women (and men too!) use yoga to bring healing and find comfort. Whatever time of day; whatever your mood; however your body is feeling and whatever your emotional state is that day, Adriene has a video for you.

Adriene says herself, 'Yoga is really the art of waking up. Getting back to the true you. It can be that simple. Yoga offers up a way for us to see a world that is working for you instead of against you.

'Yoga reminds me that everything is connected so we must live, act, dance, breathe with awareness. If the journey really is the reward, then by golly I choose to enjoy the journey. I hope you will join me.'

Yoga With Adriene 30 Day Challenge

Among the many playlists on her channel, including ‘Yoga For Beginners’, '10-15 Minute Yoga Practices’ and ‘Morning Yoga Routines’, perhaps her most popular video series are ’30 Days of Yoga’, the revamped 2016 version ‘YOGA CAMP – 30 Day Home Practice’ and the new 2018 series: ‘Dedicate: A 30 Day Yoga Series’.

Through each series Adriene is motivational and encouraging, and she welcomes you to the practice asking that each day you show up for yourself, try your best and ‘find what feels good’ – the name of the multi-platform yoga streaming service she co-founded.

Adriene uses mantras to connect the yoga practice with her audience to keep it personal to them. For each day of the YOGA CAMP: 30 Day At Home Practice, Adriene names the video with a mantra. Day 1 is ‘I Accept’, where Adriene urges you to accept the challenge, accept who you are and be yourself always (an important life motto for Adriene). Day 2 is entitled ‘I Create’ and Day 3 is called ‘I Embrace’.

Each day you return to your mat and to your practice, Adriene will congratulate you for ‘showing up for yourself’ and ask you to pinpoint what you want to get from the day’s practice. You will come away relaxed in body and in mind.

If you have ever followed her videos, you will know that Adriene quickly becomes a friend and a therapist as well as a trainer.

If you haven't tried any of her practices yet, her recently released video series entitled 'Dedicate: 30 Days Of Yoga' might just sway you to roll out your yoga mat for a small portion of your day.

Yoga With Adriene Diet

In order to live a healthy lifestyle, it’s common knowledge that exercise goes hand in hand with diet. Not only do you have to keep your body active, but you have to feed it well, too. Adriene knows this all too well and she lives off a diet full of nutritional value to help aid the body’s inner workings.

On her blog she has shared many recipes of healthy dishes that she loves to cook. One of her go-to, at-home kitchen comforts is the 'Yogi Tea': ‘take yoga off the yoga mat and into the kitchen’. The tea consists of black tea, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, and much more. Adriene swears by this tea as promoting optimal health: preventing colds and flus, supporting joint and gut health and even aiding mental health. You can find the recipe on her blog: www.yogawithadriene.com
