Johanna Konta knows a thing or two about at-home workouts. The British tennis number one is currently in Melbourne waiting to compete in 2021's Australian Open. The tournament was due to begin on 18th January but has been postponed until the 8th February. As per COVID-19 precautions, which requires that all players submit a negative COVID-19 test before arriving in Melbourne, once there players have been quarantining in their hotel rooms. Ordinarily Johanna Konta would have access to the best gyms and fanciest equipment around this close to the first of four annual Grand Slam tennis events but such is life in the midst of a pandemic. Instead Johanna has got creative and, just like the rest of us, sought to build an at-home workout routine that works her hard yet requires minimal space. Who better to take at-home workout tips from than Britain's number one female tennis player?

Johanna Konta's Top 5 At-Home Workout Tips

  1. 'Don't expect too much of yourself! Everyone finds workouts hard no matter whether it’s your first time or you train regularly. Be kind to yourself.'
  1. 'You don't need access to a lot of equipment at home to get a great workout done. Use your own body weight with classic exercises such as press-ups, sit-ups and planks, or get creative using tinned foods or bottles of water to add some weight. It's amazing how heavy a backpack can get if you fill it.''
  1. 'Staying hydrated is key. Having a sip between exercises or reps is a great chance to lower your heart rate and refresh ahead of the next set. You can keep it simple with water, or get fancy with some home-made fruit-infused water.'
  1. 'If workout equipment is an important motivator for you invest in the right product. Personally I love having a TRX suspension training kit to hand. It's a great way to add a little more challenge to your workout routine, without taking up too much space either at home or in your suitcase. I like to keep things simple. Try out classic workout accessories such as bands or skipping ropes (if you have the outside space!).'
  1. 'Lastly, have fun and look after yourself. By working out you're helping yourself physically and mentally, but don't forget to keep smiling and remember that the best feeling comes at the end once you've completed your session!'
