One of beauty’s most trusted experts, Sali Hughes is known for her intelligent, straight-talking advice and measured product reviews, all backed by years of accumulated know-how. In fact, she’s so widely trusted, Hughes has hundreds of thousands of skin-obsessed fans hanging on her every word – and buying every product she recommends. So just imagine: what if you could get your hands on skincare not only approved by Hughes, but made by her?
Well, Sali Hughes x Revolution Skin, the journalist’s very own range of skincare. And considering her track record of selling out a product just hours after publishing one of her glowing reviews, this could be an occasion to run, not walk, to the tills.
'It’s easy, serious and affordable formulas for women (and men!) who think skincare has become ridiculously complicated, harsh and confusing,' Hughes tells Grazia. 'I felt that we’d reached a point where women were effectively having to turn their bathrooms into science labs and needed a degree in biochemistry to make it all work. Women want to spend five minutes noticeably improving their skin before getting the hell on with their lives.'
Consider Sali Hughes x Revolution Skin your capsule wardrobe of skincare basics. 'It’s like having a really great white T-shirt or pair of cotton knickers. Wear whatever you like on top, but let’s get the basics sorted.'
In step with Hughes’ high skincare standards, the brand’s credentials are suitably impressive. 'Everything is cruelty-free, vegan-friendly, recyclable (apart from the pumps) and British-made,' Hughes explains. 'Plus, it’s affordable. Everything is £15 or under, that was extremely important to me; there were many tears and tantrums to make sure it happened.'
Nailing the ingredients was an equally painstaking process, resulting in a tight edit of only those she believes every face needs. 'There’s hyaluronic acid in every product,' she says. Hyaluronic helps your skin hold on to moisture. 'I’m so sick of brands showing off that they use it in their products. it’s like a restaurant showing off that there’s water on the table – it should come as standard.'
So what's in the range? Just six products in a bid to remove the confusion that comes with excessive choice. There are two cleansers: Clean Sheet Morning Cleanser, £10, for mornings or second cleanses ('if double cleansing’s your jam') while Butterclean Cleansing Balm, £15, lifts daily grime and make-up with ease.

Placid 5-Acid Daily Liquid Exfoliant, £14, is sturdy enough to dissolve dull, dead skin cells, but gentle enough so as not to leave skin sensitive. 'It contains lactic, malic, salicylic, tranexamic and just a dot of glycolic acid, all of which brighten skin,' Hughes explains. Those acids are offset by glycerin, a humectant that draws water to skin: 'If you’re going to exfoliate, then you need to put something back.'
Serum-wise, Must-C Anytime Vitamin C Serum, £15, a powerful antioxidant formula to defend and brighten. And finally, take your pick of two moisturisers: Gel Quench Anytime Moisturiser for Balanced-Combination Skins, £14, and for drier skins, Cream Drench Anytime Moisturiser, £14. All that’s left to apply? Your favourite SPF.
How you use Hughes’ products is up to you. Either stick to this pre-mapped, five-step routine or supplement your existing line-up with one or two of these formulas. 'As much as I hope you’ll fall in love with it, this is not a brand that demands your monogamy,' she says. 'My range is about delivering what your skin needs in as few products as possible.' And for that, Sali, our skin is eternally grateful.
