Taylor Swift is to be wed. Yesterday, on the 26th of August, the pop-star took to Instagram to announce her engagement. Pictured with her now fiancée, the American football player Travis Kelce, Swift posed among a sea of pink roses and white orchids in a proposal that appeared nothing short of a fairytale. The carousel of pictures (accompanied by the dulcet tones of Swift’s So High School, long rumoured to be about her husband to be) depicted the couple beaming, Swift's new piece of jewellery glittering on her hand. The diamond in question? A dazzling oval-cut rock designed to sparkle under candlelight - and rumoured to be worth a cool $1million. The internet, of course, went wild - 1.9 million reposts and counting levels of wild. Of course, no good beauty journalist could scroll past a celebrity engagement without homing in on their manicure of choice. And Swift’s is as chic as they come.

Taylor is well known for her beauty credentials. While she’s synonymous with her signature red lipstick, she’s been making a play for a softer orange of late, the same of which appeared to coat her lips in her engagement post.
With nails, however, she does tend to switch things up - we’ve seen her opt for rich cherry red nails and even play with confetti nail art. This latest look is considerably more pared back - a switch towards clean girl nails. Read: A barely there wash of colour sat atop a beautifully sculpted almond shaped manicure - it's a combination that appears both polished and effortless in equal parts.
Having had my own nails done in an almost exact shade of nude for the best part of the last decade, my well honed eye suspects this could be OPI’s Put It In Neutral. It’s a sheer, beige shade of nude that feels understated but classic. It’s less pink than Bubble Bath and less white than Funny Bunny. Instead, this errs towards a more brown-toned nude that flatters most skin tones.
Manicurist Ella Vivii (who counts Pink Pantheress as a client) thinks it's the perfect engagement manicure.
'Put It In Neutral is timeless. It creates the perfect manicure shade to compliment the ring without being distracting. It works beautifully with all skin tones as it is a very natural nude without leaning too pink or too milky. Taylor will definitely spark a resurgence.'
And Milly Mason, manicurist to Ashley Graham and Lily Donaldson is inclined to agree.
'This is an incredibly chic look. It pairs perfectly with both gold and platinum, so it's no wonder she's chosen this as her engagement colour of choice - it allows the ring to do the talking. When someone with her influence wears a shade like this for such an iconic moment, it becomes an instant trend.'
An uptick in requests for Put It In Neutral in nail salons the world over now feels likely. Taylor Swift is officially in her bridal era - and you best bet the masses will follow her every move.
