Summer is here and with longer days, temperatures in double digits and an excuse to throw on a floaty dress (despite the bouts of drizzle) – things are definitely on the up. And it's not just our wardrobe that's getting a summer overhaul, our fingertips are getting in on the action, too. These months are all about the pastels and fun prints, and despite what you may of heard, daisy nail art is in and Blake Lively is here to prove it.
In fact, Lively's current penchant for floral nails proves she is a certified beauty buff, with a new beauty brand to prove it no less: Blake Brown Beauty. While her latest venture focuses on haircare, one look at Lively's Instagram page suggests floral manicures are perhaps another one of her passion projects. In the last few weeks, Lively has sported everything from abstract micro-florals to watercolour and embroidery floral manis that include all manner of blossoms, daisy and beyond, which serve as the perfect inspiration for summer.
The dainty mani sets are, of course, in honour of Lively's newest on-screen role as Lily Bloom, the protagonist in Colleen Hoover's It Ends With Us. In the novel, which has gone on to become a cultural phenomena, Bloom is a florist and it turns out Lively considers herself one, too.
'I’ve always thought I was a florist, well before playing one. I buy corner store flowers, take them home, reassemble them & give them new life. Ever since I moved to the city at 19, that’s been one of my creative and meditative anchors. It’s design, it’s interacting with nature, it’s a multi sensory joy. Whenever I get the opportunity to garden from scratch and assemble fresh arrangements, I feel like the luckiest person on the planet. It’s straight up peace. No there’s no joke coming. Just me being earnest about flowers. Ugh pure sincerity. I hate it here,' she writes on Instagram.
That love of flowers has certainly translated loud and clear in her recent mani sets, which come courtesy of celebrity nail stylist Elle Gerstein, who used everything from real watercolours to Essie Gel Couture polishes to create the look.
But Lively is not alone. Spotted on the likes of Hailey Bieber, daisy nail art has been cropping up everywhere and unlike tie-dye nails and velvet nails, this trend looks slightly easier to (ahem) nail. Lively may be donning a plethora of florals on her nails, but honing in on a single one as simple as the daisy is great place to jump into the floral nail trend. For starters, there’s the option of nail stickers. If you haven’t yet come across theCiate London Cheat Sheets, £16, rectify that pronto. The dinky stickers (ranging from flowers to smiley faces) make nail art a total doddle. Don’t believe us? Scroll down to watch nail influencer @overglowedit's tutorial for proof!
If, however, you're a dab hand at nail art and fancy painting on the flowers yourself, you'll need a white nail polish, a yellow nail polish and a rounded metal dotter. The trick? Paint on the petals first before dotting on the yellow centre and take inspo from our gallery of beautiful daisy nail prints below.
