Would You Buy A Penis Lipstick?

The beauty industry is no stranger to shock value when it comes to grabbing the attention of its customers. Just look at the names of some of our favourite iconic products - Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, NARS Orgasm Orgasm Blush. That old adage rings true – sex sells - after all, who's going to forget their favourite shade of blusher when it's called 'Deep Throat'?

Which brings us nicely to the newest beauty buy causing a stir on the block. This time, it's renowned make-up artist Isamaya Ffrench's Isamaya Lip. AKA the penis lipstick of 2023.

I was actually lucky enough to be shown the penis-shaped product in the flesh (sorry!) a couple of weeks ago, when Isamaya's PR pulled out the phallic-shaped new launch at a breakfast meeting. Now, I'm no prude, nevertheless I couldn't help feeling grateful that no one on the neighbouring tables had noticed - it's quite something.

The idea behind Lips? It's Isamaya's latest signature lipstick launch. It's designed challenge the way that make-up is perceived.

If you're not familiar with the brand, read on. Make-up artist and brand founder Isamaya Ffrench is known for pushing the boundaries and creating beauty looks that create conversation. Over the course of her career, Isamaya has worked with the likes of Rihanna, Madonna, Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner. The looks she created were devised to push boundaries and she quickly became known as one of the most progressive pros in the make-up space.

Now, Isamaya is turning beauty on its head yet again with her eponymous brand. Each Isamaya product is designed to stretch the limitations of beauty, both in terms of formulation, pigment and texture, and - needless to say - in their design. 'I don’t want to tell people how they should look,' says Isamaya, 'it’s about using make-up to return to who you are, not become someone else.

At £80 each, the Colour Infusion Lipstick and Water Balm are seriously expensive. And, pulling out your penis lippie on the tube will definitely grab some attention. But talk about a collector's edition. That, and the Cardinal shade of lipstick really is the perfect pillar box red, take it from me.
