We've followed Millie Mackintosh's journey through Made In Chelsea and beyond. Today, in 2020, Milie is married to fellow original Made In Chelsea cast member Hugo Taylor with whom she became a new parent to baby Sienna on May 1 last year. It's easy to forget that in that first season of the reality TV show (that aired way back in 2011) Millie was introduced as a Chelsea-based make-up artist. Yes, Millie Mackintosh is a fully fledged make-up pro. It stands to reason, then, that if anyone can devise a speedy make-up routine that fits into the whirlwind that is life as a new mother, Millie Mackintosh can. Not to mention that Millie is a dab hand at hunting down savvy skin solutions to perk up her complexion after being up all night with Sienna. Take note. Here Millie takes Grazia through every single detail of her five minute make-up routine, including the nipple product that she puts to use as a lip balm and we reveal the skin tool that Millie is currently using to revitalise her complexion every morning. First though, Millie talks us through her make-up beginnings.
On Her Beauty Roots
Millie's foundations in beauty go back a long way. 'My first memories of make-up involve watching my mum and my grandmas doing theirs at the mirror,' she says wistfully, 'I was always fascinated watching people do their make-up. I loved being allowed to try a little bit of lipstick or nail varnish, I found it so exciting. I remember my mum buying me my first nail varnish – it was one of those peel-off purple sparkly ones made for children – I have a vivid memory of spilling it on the carpet.'
At school Millie began honing her beauty skills. 'I had a real interest in make-up as a teenager, too. I had really bad acne and I taught myself how to cover it up properly with make-up. I spent hours in front of the mirror practising. At school other girls caught on and started asking me to do their make-up, it became the thing that people knew me for. When I left school I did a make-up course and went on to work at MAC and then Space NK. When I was at Space NK I ended up learning a lot about skincare and haircare because I was surrounded by lots of amazing brands and Space NK gave me training on them. That sparked my interest in all things beauty.'
On THE Skin Tool She Uses Every Morning To Perk Up Her Complexion
Millie recently took to Instagram to share one of her biggest skincare secrets. Meet the Oxygen Boutique Cryo Facial Tool, £55. Yes, they might look like a set of fancy maracas but these enigmatic looking orbs have secret skin-loving depths. Millie demonstrated exactly how to use the duo on her Instagram grid and wrote 'My new favourite trick to reduce puffiness and inflammation! Sienna has had us up a few times in the night recently, leaving me feeling a mixture of jet lagged and hungover which really shows up on my face. This cryo tool is great first thing in the morning to wake me up and it feels so refreshing. You just keep it in the freezer and you are good to go.' Millie noted that she was gifted the set by Oxygen Boutique. Watch Millie's video below to see how her wake-up-routine is done and scroll down to shop the Oxygen Boutique Cryo Facial Tool below:
On Her Speedy New-Mum Make-Up Routine
Though Millie knows her way around most products on the market and loves experimenting with make-up, the reality is that as a new mother, Millie now has very little time to devote to herself, never mind her make-up. 'Sometimes I'll get to midday and realise that I haven't even washed my face,' laughs Millie. Nevertheless the former make-up pro has perfected a speedy pick-me-up make-up routine that she manages to fit in every so often and we're seriously impressed. 'I start by adding a tinted moisturiser on top of my SPF, I love Lancôme's Skin Feels Good Hydrating Skin Tint Healthy Glow SPF23, £26, it looks really natural and I normally only need to use one pump.' Millie has been a Lancôme ambassador for a while now and it's clear this particular buy has proved to be a regular in her make-up bag.
I definitely feel more made up when I have some mascara on
'You can put it on really quickly with your fingers, it evens out my skin tone and covers up a bit of redness. I follow with a bit of concealer, the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Camouflage, £24, one – it’s great for any blemishes and under eye-shadows especially – hence why it's really come in useful recently! I had a bit of acne a while ago too and I used it on that, it’s been in my make-up bag ever since.' It's clearly a big hitter with Millie. Now, onto blusher. 'I love the Iconic London Sheer Blush, £18.' And brows? 'I use the Lumene Eyebrow Fixing Gel, £8.93. Then there’s mascara. I've been using Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara, £27, since I was 14 at school and I still love it. You can really build it. I used to put on so much of it, I really went for that false lash look when I was younger. Now I just use one or two coats. I definitely feel more made up when I have some mascara on.'
Next Millie moves on to her lips and has an interesting product suggesting for achieveing a nourishing and natural look. 'Lips wise I use a bit of nipple balm!' Millie explains that this isn't something she's only been doing since she became a mother either. 'I've been using nipple balm on my lips since before I was even pregnant.' explains Millie, 'I had used the Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm, £12, because they used to sell it at Space NK and I've recently found another that I love too, Nessa Organics Nipple SOS, £19.' So there you have Millie's entire speedy make-up routine. 'That would be it if I was being quick,' Millie says, 'a bit of tinted moisturiser and concealer to even out my skin tone and cover up any blemishes, a tiny bit of pink on the cheeks to wake them up, brows, mascara, a natural lip – done. I can do that in five minutes.' Duly noted.
