The theme of the Met Gala 2024 was a whimsical dream, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion but the dress code was 'The Garden of Time'. As the Oscars of the fashion world, of course there were there were some stand out fashion moments but forget the dresses for a second, it's the hair, makeup and nails that we're really interested in - and for beauty voyeurs the night did not disappoint. Read on for the best beauty looks from the met gala 2024.

The green and cream carpet - a nod to the nature inspired theme- was awash with head turning beauty looks.

Some celebrities took the theme more literally than others. Lana Del Rey had branches protuding out of her hair, while Elsa Pataky (actress and wife of Met Gala co-chair Chris Hemsworth) sported a flower crown fit for a (Disney) princess.

The evening also signalled the return of boho chic. Sienna Miller, Chemena Kamali, Greta Gerwig, Emma Mackey and Zoe Saldana arrived dressed in Chloe, sporting undone beach waves synonymous with the 00s laidback vibe - time to dig out those circle belts.

Makeup at the Met Gala was experimental. Doja Cat's running silver mascara tears a case in point. While, Adowa Aboah turned the classic red lip on its head showcasing a thick crimson stripe in the centre of her bottom lip. It wasn't all outrageous makeup moments though. Some stars opted for a more traditional gala dress code. Gigi Hadid and Penelope Cruz's ear skimming bobs, sweet blush and neat lips were reminiscent of New York socialites, they were giving Truman Capote's swans energy.

Hair wise, the bigger the better. The locks on Kim Kardashian and Naomi Campbell flowed, long and Rapunzel like. And, for those that opted for an up-do, buns reigned supreme. JLO sported a very JLO-esque top knot, courtesy of hair stylist  Lorenzo Martin, while the host of the night Zendaya showcased a chic chignon complete with a peacock-inspired hat, because well, it's the Met Gala.

Here, the best beauty looks from the met gala 2024

Zendaya

The actress, and host of the 2024 Met Gala, makes a convincing case for red eyeshadow. Paired with a glossy, vampy lip - it's goth, but make it red carpet.

Lana Del Rey

The singer took the theme seriously with branches seemingly growing out of her signature beehive. Lips were similarly tonal. The singer sported a throw back to the nineties with a two toned brown lip liner and lipstick.

Have you ever seen JLO looking, well, more JLO? The messy top knot was dreamt up by celebrity hair stylist  [][Lorenzo Martin]{href='https://www.instagram.com/chrisappleton1/?hl=en' }, and it was paired with her signature glowy skin, sexy bronzed eyes and a perfect nude lip. The woman is a masterclass in sticking to what you know best.

Arguably the most memorable, and memeable lookof the night goes to the singer who eschwed pretty, perfect makeup in favour of crying tears - sparkly, of course.

Gigi Hadid

If anyone could convince us that red blush is a good idea it's the supermodel. Her new bob was lightly curled and a sharp red lip gave an air of 1940s glamour.

Amanda Seyfried

Purple and silver isn't your standard beauty combo but the actress pulled off the colour clash with aplomb. Hair was sprayed silver to match the metallic crown of leaves. And, if the night is anything to go by then purple lipstick is about to have its moment.

Adwoa Aboah

A masterclass in pulling off no makeup makeup. The pregnant model went bare faced except for a striking t-shaped rouge lip. How to ensure glowing skin when going makeup free? A pre-red carpet face massage of course. The model'sFacegymtrainer, Gianna Grahama shared how she sculpted Adwoa's face before the event. “When doing Adwoa, I first start with the Weighted Face Ball to help release any tension in the face and neck and to increase blood flow. I then did a lot of manual draining with my hands to get rid of any toxins and I really worked out the tension in the muscles to reveal the most amazing cheekbones”
