Kate, the Princess of Wales, has a real knack for locking down a signature beauty look. Take her hair evolution, for example, over the years Kate has more than proved her mettle in the glossy waves arena, and then there's her go-to eyeshadow look - the brown smoky eye. Time and time again Kate has showcased the enduring appeal of a gently diffused brown eyeshadow and this weekend's coronation appearance was no exception.

Kate arrived at Westminster Abbey looking predictably elegant in what was reportedly custom Alexander McQueen, the same fashion house she chose to make her now legendary wedding dress. With her hair styled into an intricate up do to complement her floral tiara, Kate looked the picture of modern royalty. Her make-up more than levelled up too. Her lashes were long, her lips perfectly lined and her eyeshadow a masterclass in a glamorous brown smoky eye.

Kate's make-up artist - whose identity is still unknown - took a deep shade of brown eyeshadow high into the crease of Kate's eye sockets, and diffused it towards the arch of her brow. It was a more impactful iteration of Kate's everyday take on a brown smoky eye, the same look she wore at the walkabout on the Mall on Friday.

3 Steps To Applying A Brown Smoky Eye According To Charlotte Tilbury

1. Prime

'Start by using the "prime" shade, a light and eye-enhancing colour and wash it over your eyelids back and forth like a windscreen wiper, taking it right up to the brow bone with a soft blender brush,' says Charlotte, 'this instantly brightens your eyes.' Try using Charlotte Tilbury's The Luxury Palette in Bella Sofia, £45.

2. Enhance

'Next, follow with a slightly darker shade, using the same windscreen wiper motion, but this time focus on blending it into the crease of your eye socket,' says Charlotte.

3. Define

'To create more definition, apply your smoke shade,' says Charlotte, 'this is the deeper, richer colour in your palette. Using a smudge brush, run this shadow along both of your lash lines and outwards into a V-shape.'
