Contouring Guide Huda

Huda Kattan is so strongly associated with contouring, you’d be forgiven for thinking she invented the concept. She might be the founder of a billion-dollar beauty empire, but back in the day she was a make-up artist, and contouring was her thing.

Huda is perhaps contouring’s biggest advocate, and if you thought it wouldn’t work as an everyday look, think again. ‘I’ve been contouring for as long as I can remember, I contour everywhere! From my cheeks to my lips – I love contouring and playing with my face shape. You can play around with contouring. When I was a make-up artist everyone wanted a super- chiselled finish, but nowadays many are after something more natural.’

The Steps

1. Dot:‘Using a small brush (I use the smaller end of Huda Beauty’s Contour & Bronze Complexion Brush, £23), dot your contour product along the contours of each side of the face – that’s your cheekbones, forehead and jawline. I like using a product with a creamier consistency, such as Huda Beauty Tantour, £26.

If you want, you can focus on target areas. Contouring your jawline makes your jaw look very clean and defined. Contouring your cheekbones makes you look more chiselled and features appear more lifted. When dotting product just under your cheekbones, you should start from where your cheekbone meets your hairline and then come into the hollows of your cheek. For a more dramatic look, bring the line in towards your nose.’

2. Blend:‘With a fluffier, bigger brush, press and blend the product out using a circular upwards motion. Pay particular attention to your forehead and jawline. I work the product into the hairline. And make sure that you blend under the jaw line.'

Huda's Top Tip

‘For a natural finish choose a lighter shade of product. If it’s your first time contouring use a small amount on your brush dotting along your hairline, jawline and cheekbones. Do this sparingly as you can always buff it out and layer it out to achieve your desired look.’
