It’s been four days. Four days since the masses liked, saved, and pinned that picture of Sofia Richie Grainge’s newest hairstyle. Dubbed the ‘Du Cap bob’, it’s already being hailed as the hair of the summer. A departure from her signature long, balayaged locks, this new look is more grown-up, sleeker- and undeniably healthier. And as it turns out, that was precisely the motivation behind the dramatic change. Taking to TikTok, Richie shared candidly, ‘I did one too many keratin treatments on my hair, and I’ve just been cutting at it and cutting at it… hoping I could get this “dead” away- and it’s just not going away,’ she lamented. ‘I know what I have to do to make this hair healthy again, and it’s to start over- so we’re cutting a bob.’

The talent behind the transformation? George Curran- a celebrity hairdresser known for working with the likes of model Jess Hunt and actress Ashley Park. In Richie Grainge's TikTok, Curran arrives at her hotel room to begin the transformation. ‘The last time I had a bob, I was a crazy teenager,’ she recalls. ‘I didn’t style it, not once, and I looked insane.’

She needn’t have worried. The final result? ‘I love my bob! I fricking love it!’ she exclaims, running her hands through her new ’do. A true thing of beauty, Richie Grainge’s shoulder-grazing style is all sky-high volume, flippy layers, and smooth, honeyed lengths.

Speaking to Grazia, Curran revealed more about the process. ‘We’d discussed some potential looks over message, and she’d sent over a few references with different bob lengths. But until I saw her in person, I couldn’t decide what we were doing- it really needed an in-person consultation.’

Together, they landed on a blunt bob, softened at the front with face-framing layers. ‘Bobs are timeless,’ says Curran. ‘But styling is key. My top tips are to avoid over-curling and to invest in a high-quality blow-dry spray.’

As for achieving Richie’s gravity-defying bounce at the roots, Curran has one hero product he reaches for time and time again. ‘A really great blow-dry spray is L’Oréal Techni Art Pli,’ he says. ‘It’s a heat-activated spray that adds serious volume at the roots. The body and bounce will last all day.’

Rachael Martin, beauty director says: 'If George Curran recommends a product, then you best believe I'm making a play for it - especially if it's what he used to achieve Sofia's high shine volume. Just a light misting spritzed through wet hair prior to styling works a treat - especially where a bob is concerned.
