Royal enthusiasts, rejoice! Another portrait of Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana for the new Pablo Larraín film, Spencer, has emerged. In the photo, that was shared by production company Neon, the 30-year-old actress is sporting a tartan coat, a cream roll-neck and chunky pearl earrings. While many fans say the resemblance between Stewart and Princess Di is uncanny, others have been quick to call out the differences – especially around her hair.
It’s believed that Kristen is recreating a look that Diana wore on a visit to Portsmouth in 1989 (see below). And while the outfit is spot on (although her ring has come under fire for being 'completely wrong'), it’s her coiffed blonde bob that has sparked a strong reaction with several saying it’s far too long and a completely different style to that of Diana's.
One Instagram comment read: ‘She needs a better 80’s feather to her hair, and it needs to be fuller, bigger, it’s too flat.’ Close in colour, Stewart’s creamy vanilla ‘do is missing Princess Diana’s signature side-swept bangs and feathered layers that inspired so many to brave the chop.
Asides from her hair, the new photo has also sparked debate around the actress' replica of Diana's infamous engagement ring. 'Looking forward to this movie! Love Princess Diana. However, her ring is so iconic. A 12 ct sapphire surrounded by 14 diamonds on a single band. This ring is wrong. Hers didn’t have a triple split shank,' said one Instagram user on the latest post by Neon.
Despite the differences, we are very much looking forward to watching the new film that plays historical homage to three pivotal days in Princess Diana's life, and is set to release later this year. Watch this space!
