Rare Beauty is the blue print for how to do things right. Since 2020, Selena Gomez's brainchild has been churning out stellar beauty buys that truly work, each one as good as the next. I'd know, I'm wedded to a number of them, from the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush to the Soft Pinch Matte Bouncy Blush. While there is much to be said for its internet favourite make-up line, today Rare Beauty expands its story once more with the launch of its first-ever fragrance, the Rare Eau de Parfum, £71.

The hotly anticipated scent comes off the back of the brand's Find Comfort body collection, which spans a body lotion, wash, hand cream, aromatherapy pen, and my personal favourite, the Find Comfort Body & Hair Fragrance Mist, £28, which I generously douse myself in every night before bed without fail. For anyone just as obsessed with it as I am, you'll be pleased to know that the brand's new Eau de Parfum follows in a similar vein. Warm, enveloping, and yes, extremely comforting, it is by far one of the best celebrity fragrances I've ever tried.

What does Rare Beauty's Rare Eau de Parfum smell like?

The brand's first fine fragrance, which was made in France, is laced with quality notes from around the world, including an opening of spicy pink pepper from Australia, a heart of rich, upcycled cocoa beans from West Africa, and smooth sandalwood from New Caledonia. There's also a cocktail of sweet caramel, creamy pistachio and the industry's enduring favourite note, vanilla, which ensures Rare's new juice is an instant crowd pleaser. It is rich, decadent and head turning, yes, but like much of Rare Beauty's offerings, it is soft, sultry and ever evolving.

'Warm and decadent with a touch of spice, Rare Eau de Parfum welcomes you with notes of creamy caramel and pistachio, gives way to an unexpected duality of rich vanilla and spicy ginger, then dries down to an earthy sandalwood,' says Rare Beauty.

Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: 'As a long-time wearer of the brand's initial foray into scent byway of the Find Comfort Body & Hair Fragrance Mist and the limited-edition travel fragrance spray, (which has remained in my purse since I first got my hands on it), it's safe to say I had high expectations for Rare Beauty's first fine fragrance. I'll preface this by saying that if you don't lean towards warm and spicy scents that have a firm footing in gourmand territory, this may not be the one for you, but if like me you do, the Rare Eau de Parfum will quickly become your new obsession.'

Pros

  • Suitable for sensitive skin
  • Intended to evolve with you
  • Designed with accessible packaging

Cons

  • Not ideal for those who don't like warm, spicy scents

If Gomez's approach to beauty is one thing, it is intentional. She explains, 'My days are never the same, so I wanted a fragrance that evolves for the moment. Something that could take me from a quiet morning at home to a big night out—and always feels just right.'

She has managed to bottle up that moves-with-you feel of the fragrance with a composition of dualistic notes that feel unexpected, like vanilla paired alongside ginger. Then, there's the inclusion of skin musks, which unravels on you over time. And to make the experience even more personal, Rare Beauty is releasing perfume enhancing Fragrance Layering Balms alongside the scent: Amber Vanilla, Floral Peony, Fresh Bergamot, and Woody Oak, which can be worn alone or alongside Rare EDP so you can create your own customised, multi-dimensional, intensified scent. If you're the business of curating your own fragrance wardrobe, this is the place to start.

My honest review of the Rare Beauty Rare Eau de Parfum

Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: 'As a long-time wearer of the brand's initial foray into scent byway of the Find Comfort Body & Hair Fragrance Mist and the limited-edition travel fragrance spray, (which has remained in my purse since I first got my hands on it), it's safe to say I had high expectations for Rare Beauty's first fine fragrance. I'll preface this by saying that if you don't lean towards warm and spicy scents that have a firm footing in gourmand territory, this may not be the one for you, but if like me you do, the Rare Eau de Parfum will quickly become your new obsession. While it starts off rich and punchy thanks to notes of caramel and pink pepper, once settled and melted into my skin a real softness and warmth emerges. Gomez wasn't lying when she says the scent evolves with you and throughout the day the perfume slightly changes but in the best of ways. Another, very worthy, point to make is the bottle, which has been consciously designed by hand therapists with accessibility in mind, so you won't find any decorative caps or hard-to-press pumps.'
