While names like Olivia, Sophie, Amelia, Harry and Jack are reigning supreme among the most in demand baby names in the United Kingdom right now, others are on the wane, according to a new list compiled by BabyCentre.
Parenting site and font of all baby name knowledge BabyCentre has highlighted the 24 baby names that are yet to be registered in 2017 so far by their 45 million users, meaning that these names could soon fall out of use altogether.
Names like Cilla, Janice and Edna for girls and Ian, Frank and Clive for boys have clearly fallen out of favour with parents, who might see these names as better fitting their parents generation.
BabyCentre’s managing editor Sarah Redshaw said, ‘We see names rise and fall in popularity over the years but some names do fall out of favour completely.’
‘So if you are looking for a unique name for your baby that won’t be shared with lots of other children then maybe Cilla or Clarence should be on your list.’
Of course, we’re only four months into 2017, so who’s to say that a new generation of Cillas, Gails and Rickys won’t arrive before the year is out?
