Beyoncé, take note. If you're expecting a new arrival (or two) this year but haven't quite settled on the perfect name, you might want to pay attention to Nameberry's predictions for the most zeitgeist-y baby names for 2017.

The baby name site has just released a list of the 50 names that look set to become a lot more popular as the year goes on, compiled by measuring which names had the greatest increase in page views in the first month of 2017, compared to the first month of 2017.

From a quick glance at the list, the impact of celebrity offspring and wider pop culture, too, is seen in a big way: Ines, recently revealed to be the name of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' second daughter, saw a 338% increase in interest and reached number five in the list, while last year's Disney heroine Moana pips her to fourth place, with a 467% increase. Even Sherlock makes a surprising appearance, ranking 19th on the list of male names.

According to Nameberry, while Amara is the only name on either list to be carried over from last year, many of the names people are searching for are similar in sound or meaning to those popular in 2016: Ines echoes Elise from last year, Kyra is the new Kaia, and Alden has overtaken Aiden.

While the site doesn't claim that these names will necessarily be replacing the ever-popular Olivias, Amelias and Harrys, it does suggest that if you opt for a more unusual name now, you might find it seems altogether less 'out there' by the time your child is ready for school.

Last year, a survey of Mumsnet users suggested that 25% of new parents actually regretted choosing a name they felt was too commonly used, with a further 11% admitting that their child's name 'wasn't distinctive enough,' so by the time the year is out, you might be attending naming ceremonies for little Arcadias and Beauregards...
