Because sometimes we don't want to be a princess or a bride.

Another day, another emoji related story. Earlier this year we told you about Google’s new ‘female career’ emojis and then there was Facebook Messenger’s plans to launch gender diverse emoticons, but today we have some even bigger emoticon related news.

Apple are jumping on the bandwagon, and their next update sees the tech giant launching a number of gender-diverse icons.

As part of the iOS 10 update, expected September, you keyboard will receive an exciting (and very politically correct) refresh. Apple plans to launch 100 new and redesigned emojis, and finally women are being rightly represented.

The update includes a whole collection of new female athletes (such as a female swimmer, runner and bodybuilder) and female professionals (construction worker and private investigator are just two of the options).

Finally!

Apple's sneak peek of the emojis released today comes following Google’s proposal which was approved by the Unicode Consortium in mid July.

Theses female emojis aren’t the only way Apple are looking to represent the diverse world we live in. The previous iOS update gave us the option of skin tone, and this new redesign also sees the addition of emoticons depicting the single parent family and a rainbow flag. And it’s not just women who will benefit, Apple are introducing a male option for the haircut and scalp massage emoji.
