As a Sex And The City spin-off, And Just Like That had high expectations to live up to from the start. Now in its third season, the series follows characters fans have adored since 1998, when SATC launched, as they navigate through the trials of midlife.
But this enduring appeal of the show means each character has a lot of backstory to keep up with - and now, eagle-eyed fans think they might have spotted a plot hole in one of the leading character's lives. Allow us to explain.
The discontent is centred around Lisa Todd Wexley, played by Nicole Ari Parker, who becomes Charlotte, Carrie and Miranda's newest friend. In one of the latest episodes, which aired on 3 July, Lisa calls Charlotte to tell her that her father had just passed away from a stroke. But fans quickly noted that during Season one, Lisa revealed that her father died the previous year - which left the internet scratching their heads as to what could have happened.
People took to social media to share their confusion about the storyline. One user wrote on X '#AndJustLikeThat is getting worse. Lisa's Dad died again. She never mentioned he had risen from the dead and Carrie doesn't mind Aidan slept with someone else. Miranda has suddenly remembered she has cash.' A second quipped 'And Just Like That should really lean in and kill Lisa Todd Wexley's father every season.' A third wrote 'I was the only one who noticed that Lisa's father died twice in #AndJustLikeThat.'
And to add fuel to the fire, Lisa's father also appeared in Season 2 in an episode called 'ALIVE!' - which isn't a reference to her father returning from the dead, as the internet has hilariously suggested. In the episode, Lisa's husband introduces him as her father to the rest of the group.
So what's going on? According to a source quoted in TheWrap, Lisa's dead 'dad' in season one was her stepfather. This fits with a theory circulating with some fans online, who are suggesting Lisa actually has two dads.
However, this hasn't stopped people suggesting the show is falling victim to some pretty lazy writing. 'If the writers don’t care about the characters, then why should we?' asked Hannah Townsend, co-host of Talk Of The Townsends. 'It feels like they want us to dislike the show.'
This isn't the first time that fans have spotted hints of plot holes on the show. Take Steve's bar, which seemed to have relocated from Manhattan to Brooklyn with no explanation. There's also the fact that Steve and Miranda's son appears to be growing up on a different timeline to the rest of the kids on AJLT.
We'll have to wait and see how the show's execs get round this one...
