Vanessa Kirby is going from Princess to MI-5 agent

Vanessa Kirby’s next move might surprise you, she’s hanging up the tiaras and ball gowns of hit Netflix series The Crown to play an MI-5 agent in a spin-off of the Fast and Furious film franchise. Yes, really.

The new film, which is scheduled for release in 2019, is called Hobbs and Shaw, and follows the adventures of Fast and Furious characters Luke Hobbs (played by The Rock) and Deckard Shaw (as played by Jason Statham).

‘I think it's going to be a little bit more grounded because it's the beginning,’ director David Leitch told Collider in May. ‘It's an origin story, in a sense... we're starting a franchise.

‘So we want it to be a little bit more grounded, a little bit more character-centric. We're going to set up the stakes for these guys and their relationship, but we're also going to have some great set pieces and some action that you'd expect from that type of franchise.’

Kirby will play Jason Statham’s character Deckard Shaw’s sister, an MI-5 agent. Their mother Magdalene Shaw was actually played by Helen Mirren in Fast and Furious 8, but there’s no word yet on whether she’ll make an appearance in this spin-off.

Kirby is no stranger to action films, she played White Widow in Mission: Impossible Fallout which comes out later this month in the US.

Helena Bonham Carter will take over the role of Princess Margaret as Kirby leaves The Crown.
