Traitors was hands down THE biggest reality series of the last six months – so big, in fact, that for a while there it seemed it had taken Love Island’s crown as the most watched show on TV when viewing figures for the second Winter version were reported to have dipped to their lowest since 2016 (they've since recovered but it's certainly not had the fanfare it normally does).
It swiftly turned out that the US had been making their own version at the same time, and so mere weeks after the UK series finished, in January Traitors: US landed on the Beeb. Fronted by Alan Cumming (who is Scottish, natch) and featuring reality celebrities in the midst of faithfuls and traitors making up the show’s contestants, the series was devoured by US and UK audiences alike and now it’s been confirmed for a second series.
According to US streaming service Peacock who commissioned the show, series two will be fronted again by Alan and can be expected this year.
‘We hugely enjoyed making the US version of this hit format with NBC and giving Peacock’s audience a highly bingeable murder mystery game full of intrigue and dramatic twists,’ said producer Stephen Lambert.
‘This is the game which shows how people judge each other, often leaping to false conclusions, in a way that’s revealing and entertaining, and we’re excited to be making a second season with Alan as together we build on the success of the first.’
And the confirmation of a second series isn’t the only news – there will also be a reunion show from series one, hosted by King of Reunions Andy Cohen, who also does all the Real Housewives ones, and will air on February 28th.
People are already excited for the second series of the US and the potential of a second UK one, with rumours swirling before the first one had even finished.
One person wrote on Twitter, ‘Series 2 of the traitors idea: Don't tell us watchers who the traitors are. We just see who's murdered in the morning and get told any of the special rules at the same time as the faithfuls - twitterverse would be insane with theories 😂 #thetraitors’.
‘Seriously thought when can we apply for traitors series 2?? @BBCOne,’ said another.
