A totally normal, non-creepy red-carpet moment here...

Netflix's hit adaptation of The Addams Family, Wednesday, has been nominated for Best International Show at the 2023 TV BAFTAs today. The cast haven't been able to make it to the ceremony, so they decided to send the next best thing (literally) – a creepy moving hand.

Fans of the show will recognise the hand, otherwise known as 'Thing', as an integral part of every Addams Family adaptation. The disembodied hand is always by Wednesday's side (Jenna Ortega) at Nevermore Academy and helps her solve the mystery of the Hyde monster in Jericho.

Contrary to popular belief, Thing is not created using CGI but is instead played by an actor. Victor Dorobantu, who plays Thing, wears a blue suit during filming so that the rest of his body can be digitally erased in post-production.

But on this occasion, Thing went solo without its trusty companion. The hand even dressed up in a bow tie to celebrate the team's BAFTA nomination. We wonder how the hand will navigate its acceptance speech if the show picks up an award...

Wednesday follows the life of Wednesday Addams at Nevermore Academy as she investigates murders, terrifies people and tries to make some friends along the way. The eight-episode series launched in November 2022 and is based on the original character from Charles Addams' story.

Jenna Ortega, the actress who plays the gothic coming-of-age protagonist, is building a bit of a brand for herself too and has just been announced as the latest cast member of Beetlejuice 2. She's set to play 'the ghost with the most', Beetlejuice's wife. Hopefully she can recycle some of her costumes!
