Spoilers ahead!
Love triangles are having a moment on TV right now. We've got the messy ménage à trois between neighbours in Channel 4's The Couple Next Door, and plenty to choose from on season 12 of Love Island.
Now, another love triangle is back on our screens with the return of The Summer I Turned Pretty for a third - and final - season. The coming-of-age romantic TV series is based on the popular book trilogy by bestselling author Jenny Han, and has developed a cult following.
Season three is set nearly four years after the events of season 2, following Belly, played by Lola Tung, in a long term relationship with Jeremiah, played by Gavin Casalegno. Their feelings for each other are thrown into question by the arrival of her ex Conrad, played by Christopher Briney.
However, fans of the book should prepare themselves for some differences, according to Jenny Han. 'There are a couple of moments that people really love from the books that I knew people were wanting to see,' she told People, warning 'they might not always happen in the way that you’re expecting.'
Here's what we know...
What is The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 about?
In season three, we return to following Belly, who is spending another summer in Cousins with Jeremiah after finishing her junior year of college. For now, Conrad is in the backseat, but everyone knows he still has a place in Belly's heart. 'First loves are important, but they’re not as important as lasts,' Belly says in the trailer for the show.
Gradually, everything begins to remind Belly of Conrad, despite talk of a wedding on the cards. The question is, will these memories overtake her desire to marry his brother? Those who have read the books will know how things end - and if not, you're going to have to wait until the show hits screens.
The official longline for season three reads: 'Her future seems set, until some core-shaking events bring her first love Conrad back into her life,' continuing 'Now on the brink of adulthood, Belly finds herself at a crossroads and must decide which brother has her heart. Summer will never be the same.'
What are the reviews of The Summer I Turned Pretty season three?
