I think we can speak for the nation when we say – we are missing our weekly dose of The Great British Bake Off. But this announcement will be sure to raise our spirits, because the lineup for the celebrity edition has been unveiled.
Each year, The Great Celebrity Bake Off sees a host of celebrities tie up their aprons in an attempt to raise some money for Stand Up 2 Cancer. This year’s batch of famous faces includes Olympian Sir Mo Farah, singer Ellie Goulding and Love Island host Laura Whitmore. Other names to have been revealed are Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse, comedian and creator of Taskmaster Alex Horne, TV presenter Emma Willis, singer-songwriter Example and choirmaster Gareth Malone.
Also hoping to snag the crown are radio DJ Annie Mac, actor and author Ben Miller, The Inbetweeners star Blake Harrison, and TV and radio presenter Clara Amfo. Completing the star-studded line up will be former Coronation Street actress Katherine Kelly, comedian Ed Gamble, writer and comedian Mawaan Rizwan, TV star Ruby Wax, TV presenter Sophie Morgan, Friday Night Dinner’s Tracy-Ann Oberman and musician Yung Filly complete the line-up.
Every episode celebrities will battle it out over three rounds – the Signature, the Technical and the Showstopper challenge – in the hopes to be honoured with the title of Star Baker and impress judges Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith.
In a twist, we will even see host Matt Lucas switch his role from presenter to baker in an episode where he fills in for a celebrity. He said of the switch, ‘I was forced to bake by my bosses at the last minute when one of the bakers became unavailable. I can’t tell you how happy I was that my humiliation was caught on camera.’ So, now he will see what it’s really like to be grilled by fellow presenter Noel Fielding.
Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall and comedian Reece Shearsmith were among the stars who were crowned Star Baker in last years Stand Up to Cancer fundraiser.
The Great Celebrity Bake Off is set to hit our TV screens later this spring on Channel 4.
