Gird your loins, after 18 long years a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is officially on the way. And apparently production starts as soon as next month.
In July, Disney confirmed that they are working on a sequel to the 2006 hit film, which starred Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Anna Hathaway. While there's a million people who can't wait to see this film - us included - there's no sign of the release date as of yet. However, according to Production List, filming starts on 30 November and returning cast members include Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.
If rumours are to be believed, the second Devil Wears Prada film will focus on Miranda (Streep), as she faces the decline of the once booming magazine publishing business. In fact, the only person who can help bail her out is her former assistant, Emily (Blunt) - who just so happens to work as a high-powered executive at a luxury fashion group. Apparently, Miranda needs the brand's big advertising budget to help prove that everyone still wants a piece of the Priestly.
Meryl Streep will reportedly return as Runway editor Miranda Priestly, with Emily Blunt also reportedly returning as Miranda's long-suffering assistant, Emily Charlton. Also said to be back onboard with the project are the film's original producer, Wendy Finerman, and original screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna.
Anne Hathaway is also set to reprise her role as the iconic Andy Sachs for the sequel. The star has previously opened up in the past about a possibility of a return, saying earlier this year, 'I don't think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen. The reason that movie felt so special was that we were a team and we did that work, but really it's the love that everybody pours to it.'
Stanley Tucci is also down to play Nigel again. Nearly 20 years later, has he finally escaped Miranda's clutches and climbed to the top of his career ladder? We'll have to wait to find out.
'Everybody wants this,' wrote one fan on X, as another agreed, 'The Devil Wears Prada sequel! Literally shaking and crying.'
However, not everyone is so sure that a second film is such a good idea. One fan wrote, 'The Devil Wears Prada is one of the movies nearest and dearest to my heart. I think it's perfect, and the ending was perfect. I just hope that the sequel does the characters justice, and doesn't just fill in "where are they now" blanks.'
Based off of Laura Weisberger's 2003 novel, The Devil Wears Prada was a box office smash - earning $326.7 million worldwide. The role of fiery Miranda - who was thought to be at least partially inspired by Vogue's Anna Wintour, who Laura worked for as a personal assistant - landed Mamma Mia star Meryl a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy, as well as an Academy Award nomination.
