The Not-So-Secret Dig At Samantha (And Possibly Kim) In And Just Like That

Also, this is how Kim Cattrall's absence is explained (spoiler alert!).

Samantha and just like that

We're still trying to process everything that happens in the first episode of And Just Like That{ =nofollow}. But one thing we don't have to spoil is that Samantha Jones, everyone's favourite 'try-sexual', is not in the reboot, as the first two episodes just dropped this morning.

For those who couldn't help but wonder where the hell Samantha is, Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte explain her absence pretty quickly. There is no subtly alluding to where Samantha has gone, as within the first few minutes, Charlotte tells Bitsy (who they randomly run in to) that Samantha is 'no longer with us' when Bitsy asks where the 'fourth musketeer is'.

No, no. Don't panic. That doesn't mean Samantha is dead. It just means she's moved to London for a new job.

Bitsy also makes a not-so-secret dig at Samantha's age - you'll know if you've watched the series that Samantha eventually admits to her friends that she's a bit older than them - saying that London is a 'viable' place for 'sexy sirens in their sixties'.

As it happens, Kim Cattrall, who of course played Samantha, is 65, and said in an interview that part of not wanting to play the character any longer was because she was in her 60s. She's also talked about playing a 'sexy siren' after 40, too.

Samantha's relocation to London was - as you could probably guess - down to drama with Carrie. It later transpires, in a conversation Carrie has with Miranda, that Samantha has been ignoring calls from all of the gang after author Carrie dumped Samantha as a publicist. 'We never talk about her,' Miranda says to Carrie, adding that it's 'like she's dead'.

Carrie moans that Samantha has also 'dumped her as a friend' and she's sad, because she thought Samantha saw her 'as more than an ATM'. Ouch.

It all kind of mirrors the real-life situation, as Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall famously don't get on - and that's thought to be the reason Kim not only refused to do the third film, but refused to appear in the reboot too.

And, watching the first episode of the reboot, we desperately need her back. If Samantha is living in London, we'd like to find her - immediately.
