Married at First Sight UK is about to hit our TV screens and judging from the trailer- it’s going to be an explosive series.

The show’s expert phycologist Melanie Schilling’s predicts this show might just take Love Island’s crown.

The Love Island finale saw 2.8 million people tune in to watch Millie and Liam win £50,000 but these numbers are down from the 2019 summer finale which saw 3.8 million.

Melanie, say’s this show will bring back that spark to reality dating shows. She revealed to the Metro, 'I’m gonna call it, I think this show has the potential to be more successful.’

She continued, ‘Yes [ Love Island] has the elements of flirtation and love, and all that stuff in there, but our show does go so much deeper.’

‘It’s about people connecting and forming meaningful relationships, and I get feedback all the time from our audience, saying 'I can see myself playing out on the screen' or 'that couple reminded me of me.', she adds.

Marred at First Sight has the added element of expert advice to help the couples navigate married life. Melanie revealed that this makes the show more relatable to viewers, as the advice given is often used by those who might be going through the same issues in their own relationships

Melanie said, ‘I find there’s a very very personal, and much deeper connection with the stories, playing out on the screen.’

‘It’s not just about the surface level stuff. Sure, there’s people falling in love and there’s lots of snogging and mugging off…’

Melanie will be joined by fellow experts Paul C. Bronson and Charlene Douglas to guide the 16 newlyweds through married life.

The UK version will also welcome the programme's first first-ever gay male couple, who will meet and say ‘ I do’ at the altar.

Love Island has consistently been called out for the lack of diversity across the show from race, body size and sexuality – it seems like Married at First Sight will be taking the steps Love Island have failed to take.

Married at First Sight premieres on E4 on August 30.
