In the context of these, you might think twice about judging Leanne's break-up with Mike...

Love Island Leanne and Mike

On last night’s episode of Love Island, Leanne Amaning revealed she had got ‘the ick’ with partner Mike Boateng and decided to end their coupling. Her decision to speak to her friends about it before to the break-up and the way she broke up with Boateng has since attracted backlash online.

‘It’s been two weeks and I feel like I should have stronger feelings than I do,’ she told the police officer. ‘I’ve been giving it time and I really have wanted us to work but I just feel like how much more time can I give it before I have to admit maybe it’s just not banging?’

While her choice of words could be seen as harsh (or hilarious depending on how sensitive you are, just saying), it seems the judgement of her break-up is even harsher. Because, as far as we can see, Amaning was more honest and mature in her reasoning to end things than the average Love Island break-up. Just take a look at these shocking break-ups and see for yourself. Was Amaning actually savage in the grand scheme of Love Island History?

Leanne Amaning and Mike Boateng

Taking a deeper dive into last night's big shock, one of the main conversations around Amaning's decision was whether or not she had 'misled' Boateng by being affectionate with him up until the break-up.

'I don’t see how I’ve misled you, I’ve given something a chance,’ she defended herself. ‘Don’t you think it’s better I’ve given something a chance and tried with you than me completely cutting if off and not giving it a chance? I’ve been getting to know you and it just so happens that I don’t like you. That’s it.’

Honestly, her reasoning is fair enough. It may have been a shock to viewers, but we do only see one hour of edited footage of a 24-hour day. Ultimately, you can't blame the woman for not fancying someone.

Malin Andersson and Terry Walsh

After Andersson was dumped from the villa while in a relationship with Walsh, he moved on to Emma-Jane Woodham pretty quickly. What happened next may have been the first time we realised the true evil genius of Love Island producers, because Walsh was tricked into meeting Andersson for a drink where she confronted him. The resulting argument was absolutely savage, with Walsh calling Andersson 'a joke'.

Yewande Biala and Danny Williams

In one of the most confusing moments of Love Island history, Williams broke up with Biala during a re-coupling speech that saw him describe his choice with Biala's defining features before choosing Arabella Chi. Calling his choice 'intelligent' and saying 'we've connected on an intellectual level' - Biala was a scientist - viewers assumed he had chosen Biala, only to see her dumped from the villa. This one we can definitely file under the 'savage' folder - and not in the iconic 'YAS QUEEN' section.

Amy Hart and Curtis Pritchard

Love Island 2019 had more than its fair share of genuinely hard-to-watch moments. Namely, when Hart returned from Casa Amor with the intention to recouple with Pritchard only to find out he had kissed someone else. Her infamous line 'I was coming back here to tell you that I loved you' has since gone down in Love Island history and continues to be one of the most savage break-ups the show has seen.

Scott Thomas and Kady McDermott

Thomas and McDermott are up there as one of the most explosive couples in Love Island history, breaking up a ton of times during the 2016 season. As fan-favourites, their most shocking split was actually their least dramatic. Because, whereas viewers had got used to seeing them blow up and calm back down within hours, this heartfelt conversation seemed like the true end. It wasn't though, of course, and they ended up coming third on the show.

Anna Vakili and Jordan Hames

The break-up of Vakili and Hames was as unexpected as it was savage. Hames had made Vakili his girlfriend two days before admitting his feelings for India Reynolds to Curtis Pritchard. He then chose to pull Reynolds to let her know before telling Vakili, who was made aware by friend Maura Higgins. The scene that erupted may have been reality TV gold, but as was the case with 2018 Love Island the level of savage made it hard to watch once again.

Anna's reaction however, iconic.

Georgia Steel and Josh Denzel

Another victim of Casa Amor, Steel was dumped by Denzel during a re-coupling when he re-entered the villa with Kaz Crossley. 'I went into Casa Amor thinking I wasn't going to get my head turned,' he said. 'I thought if I did get my head turned, it would have to be someone sensational someone that blew me away and Kaz came in and did that.' Definitely savage.

Tyla Carr and Jonny Mitchell

While this break-up wasn't exactly shocking, the aftermath of it was. When Mitchell was dumped from the villa and Carr had to make the decision to stay or go with him, fellow Islander Theo Campbell made things hilariously awkward by stating 'I think if Tyla really liked him she should go as well really' as Mitchell was about to leave.

The iconic Love island moment can be seen at two minutes, 20 seconds in the below video, but it wasn't met with much appreciation at the time.

Adam Collard and ... literally everyone

The 2018 season saw Collard jump from woman to woman with little regard for their feelings. After dumping Kendall Rae Knight for Rosie Williams – telling Knight things weren't moving quickly enough - he kissed Williams moments after their break-up. Days after moving on with Williams, he tried to get to know Megan Barton-Hanson and then Zara McDermott - who he eventually settled with.

William's confrontation of Collard after Barton-Hanson told her about Collard's betrayal had to be one of the most savage moments in the season (yes, filed in the iconic YAS QUEEN section).

Alex George and Alexandra Cane

After viewers spent weeks rooting for George to find love, it seemed his time had come with Cane. However, after staying together for two recoupling's, she confronted him about the tension between them and accused him of not making any effort. We'll have to file this under 'undetermined' - like all of George's lie-detector answers - because we can't quite understand how he could not want to get to know Cane.

Laura Anderson and Wes Nelson

One of the most shocking moments of the 2018 season came when Megan Barton-Hanson confessed her feelings for Wes Nelson while he was still Laura Anderson. Nelson immediately jumped ships, telling Anderson he hadn't been happy for awhile. The break-up was absolutely savage, but we can't help but stan Anderson letting him rip for it. 'Do me a favour, well done. Fuck off,' she concluded. Obsessed.

Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies

Another couple that had their fair share of break-ups, Cetinay and Davies threw a ton of accusations at each other during the course of their Love Island journey. Their most shocking break-up came when Cetinay accused Davies of 'playing a game'. It wasn't too savage though, because they got back together and ended up winning the show.

Michael Griffiths and Amber Gill

A Love Island 2019 moment we still haven't recovered from, Griffith's decision to recouple with Joanna Chimonides sent shockwaves beyond just the villa. With Gill left single after spending weeks slowly opening up to Griffith, it was a plot twist no one saw coming (or understood). The resulting arguments can definitely be filed under savage, with Gill absolutely coming out on top.
