Jimmy Carr's comedy reality series LOL: Last One Laughing has been renewed for a second season, which means there are new comedy greats joining the line up.

Of course, reigning champion Bob Mortimer will be returning to defend his crown, and he will be joined by David Mitchell, Motherland star Diane Morgan, Alan Carr and Romesh Ranganathan, as well as Amy Gledhill, Maisie Adam, Mel Giedroyc, Gbemisola Ikumelo and Sam Campbell.

The show, which sees 10 comedians spend the day together in a confined space with the objective of making each other laugh but never laughing themselves, was a surprise hit for Amazon Prime.

It's an adaptation of a Japanese show called Documental, created by and starring Hitoshi Matsumoto and owned by Yoshimoto Kogyo, where Matsumoto leads 10 comedians betting their own money in an anything goes 'battle of laughter behind closed doors'.

There are now versions of Last One Laughing in more than 20 territories, including Ireland, Canada, Mexico, Italy, Germany, Australia and South Africa.

When is Last One Laughing season two out?

The new cast was revealed at the Edinburgh TV Festival in August and the second season will air on Prime Video early next year.

Who hosts Last One Laughing?

The series is hosted by Jimmy Carr, who implements the rules and decides if anyone cracked a smile when they shouldn't have, and his deputy Roisin Conaty.

Who was in season one of Last One Laughing?

Series one starred Bob Mortimer, Daisy May Cooper, Joe Lycett, Judi Love, Rob Beckett, Sara Pascoe, Lou Sanders, Joe Wilkinson, Harriet Kemsley, and Richard Ayoade.

How did Bob Mortimer win season one?

The first season saw Bob Mortimer go head to head with Richard Ayoade in the final. Bob joked, 'I was in the cemetary and I saw a bloke get up from behind the gravestone. "Morning," I said. "No – just having a sh*t."' The joke was from the comic's book and cracked a smile out of Richard, declaring Bob the winner.

'What I now realise I'd done was essentially sign up to be in goal and just have someone take penalty after penalty after penalty,' Richard lamented. 'I had nothing and he was on a horse opposite me with a pocket full of material.'

The success of the show secured Bob's status as a national treasure, with thousands of viewers taking to social media to declare as such. 'The Last One Laughing is a proper scream,' read one post on X. 'Bob Mortimer is an absolute legend.'
