And Just Like That: Could Samantha Jones Really Be Coming Back?

When it comes to And Just Like That{ =nofollow}, we dare to live in hope that Samantha Jones might return. It's undeniable - however much you are/aren't enjoying the reboot of Sex And The City - that there's a huge Samantha-shaped hole in the show. (No, that's not an innuendo.) Honey, we've missed her camp quips, and know for a fact, after splitting with Smith in the first film, Samantha would be doing all the dating on the reboot.

And in last week's AJLT episode, we did kind of see Samantha - in texts sent to Carrie, as the writer reached out to let Samantha know that she'd mentioned her name on the podcast, recalling the time when Samantha yanked out Carrie's birth control. Just like good friends do. In typical Samantha style, she was fine with the mention - and simply quipped: 'I love that your vagina is getting air time.'

On the series, the explanation for Samantha's absence is that she's moved to London - because Carrie sacked her as a publicist, leading to a subsequent fall out. In real life, the reason is isn't too similar - as Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker have a very messy, very public feud. (In 2017, Kim told Piers Morgan that she thought SJP could have been kinder to her, saying: 'I really think [SJP] could have been nicer.')

However, many people think the texts in AJLT could be setting Samantha up to return. As one fan asked on Twitter, 'Are we getting a Samantha appearance or are these texts just teasers?' Another said, 'Hmmmmm unless my girl Samantha is about to make a return. please stop writing her into Carrie's storyline??' (We kind of agree, to be honest.)

But, while a cameo hasn't been entirely ruled out, Kim did like a tweet on Twitter, which said she was right to leave the reboot behind, and focus on other opportunities, such as the Queer As Folk reboot she's set to star in. 'With the #SATC reboot happening, they keep bringing you up,' a fan tweeted her. 'I applaud you for making choices that are right for you. You are not required to do anything you don’t want to do or that won’t make you happy. Looking forward to you on Queer As Folk.'

However, SATC insiders told DailyMail.com in November that, if there is a second series, production is hoping Kim will reprise the iconic role. 'We all miss Kim and we hope she comes back for the second season,' the insider said, 'the door will never close on her, she is an important part of the franchise.'
