To say that we’re excited to see The Little Mermaid when it hits cinemas on 26 May would be an understatement. What’s not to love? It’s one of the greatest Disney animations of all times with some incredible tunes plus, this 2023 remake has an all-star cast.
And when we say all-star, we mean all-star. You’ve got singer Halle Bailey in the lead role of Ariel, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, a now grown-up Jacob Tremblay as Flounder and Hamilton’s Daveed Diggs as Sebastian.
One name however that you may not yet have heard – but absolutely should have done btw – is Jonah Hauer-King who is set to play Prince Eric. But who exactly is Jonah Hauer-King and where have you seen him before?
Fair warning, you’ve got some incredible viewing ahead of you.
Firstly, The Flatshare – which is how we discovered Jonah – on Paramount+. Jonah plays Mo, Tiffany’s BFF who’s training to be a counsellor and is one of the sweetest characters in both the critically-acclaimed book and TV series.
Other TV series Jonah has appeared in include the BBC adaptation of Little Women in 2017, in the role of Laurie – the character played by Timothee Chalamet in the 2019 Oscar-nominated film – and World on Fire as Harry Chase. Series two of World on Fire is set to come out later this year.
As for film roles, before The Little Mermaid, Jonah starred in the English remake of Old Boys in 2017 and A Dog’s Way Home alongside Bryce Dallas Howard and Alexandra Shipp in 2019.
Upcoming projects for Jonah include the highly-anticipated The Tattooist of Auschwitz in which he has been cast in the lead role of Lale, and Rich Flu, a dark comedy thriller from Spanish director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia.
