Singer Calum Scott performs on Love Island

It's a staple fixture in the Love Island calendar – the night when a celebrity guest performs and throws the Islanders a party. It always involves awkward slow motion dancing and the Islanders pretending to be super fans, but it certainly helps to park any drama for at least 15 minutes. In the past we've seen Craig David, Becky Hill, Mabel and Sean Paul take the stage, to name a few, and this year Jax Jones and Calum Scott performed their new single 'Whistle'.

Who is Calum Scott?

Calum Scott is a singer and songwriter from Yorkshire, who rose to fame when he performed a cover of Robyn's 'Dancing on My Own' on Britain's Got Talent in 2015. He came sixth on the show and later released his own version of the song as a single, which peaked at number two in the UK singles charts. It also became Britain's best-selling single of summer 2016.

Does he always sing with Jax Jones?

No, Calum Scott is a solo artist who signed with Capitol in 2017. His singles include the song 'You Are the Reason' and 'Woke Up in Love' and he released his first debut album Only Human in 2018; it reached number four in the UK albums chart. His latest album Bridges is out now.

His latest single 'Whistle' with DJ Jax Jones went down a storm with the Love Islanders – and Ron in particular looked very excited as he declared himself a huge Calum Scott fan.

From Britain's Got Talent to Love Island

Before performing on the show, Calum said he found the idea 'quite daunting' but 'really exciting'. Given that there are only 15 Islanders in the villa (excluding the 24/7 crew) he knew he'd be playing to a particularly small crowd. He said: 'it'll be a bit weird but I've done stranger gigs, it's fine.'

As for whether Jax Jones felt nervous, despite being a hugely successful DJ, he's also a big Love Island fan himself. Back in 2018, Jax Jones tweeted: 'I think the worst thing about watching love island is knowing I'm nowhere near fit enough to be on it.' How times change!

Although some Love Island fans weren't initially sure who Calum Scott is and some people even accused Ron of lying about being a super fan. Someone wrote: 'They slipped Ron a fiver to say he’s Calum Scott’s biggest fan, let’s be real.' However, the singer had an undeniably successful career so far and lots of people jumped to his defence. One user wrote: 'how do people not know who Calum Scott is, criminal' and another said 'how can people not know that god of a man'.

Regardless, Ron's reaction to the duo's performance of 'Whistle' will never compare to the ultimate super fan Islander – Anton Danyluk. Anton looked like he was going to wet himself when Craig David entered the villa in series five, and who can blame him? The man was simply beside himself.
