By now, we're all pretty familiar with the format of Married At First Sight. The ultimate dating experiment sees a bunch of singles on the hunt for commitment matched together, 'married,' and coached by relationship experts Paul C. Brunson, Mel Schilling and Charlene Douglas. The end goal? Create a happy ever after relationship that lasts long after the camera stops rolling.

But one side we don't get to see on the cameras is the application process for the show. So how do they see if you've got what it takes to be on Married At First Sight? It turns out it's a pretty lengthy process, and there's also some requirements you need to meet. If you're interested in applying, then read on...

How do you apply for Married At First Sight UK?

If you think you've got what it takes to marry a stranger - and potentially meet the love of your life - then you might want to consider applying for MAFS. It's a simple process - all you need to do is submit an application form here.

Application for the next season of MAFS UK are currently closed. However, you can still register your interest in taking part in a future season of MAFS here. We'll update this page when applications open again, so watch this space.

What are the requirements for Married At First Sight UK applications?

You have to be over 18 years old to apply for MAFS, and they ask that you feel 'ready for marriage'. As part of the application, you will be asked to fill out a short form, to provide details such as your name, age, and where you are from. You will also be asked to submit a picture of yourself, and provide a link to your socials.

You will be asked to complete a questionnaire to tell the producers a bit more about you. Some of the things you could be asked include where you live, your hobbies and interests, and what you could bring to your on-screen marriage.

There's also an option to submit a video as part of your application. Although the show stresses this isn't essential now, it could 'hugely improve' your chances of being picked for the show.

What have past contestants said about applying for Married At First Sight?

In recent years, several contestants have spoken out about the MAFS application process, which has helped demystify how it all works. Last year, TikTok user @juliasingsmyths2, who made it all the way to being cast in the 2024 MAFS Australia cast lineup before quitting the show, revealed how it all works behind the scenes.

Taking to TikTok, Julia said: 'There were a lot of interviews, all of them were with different producers, and all of them were recorded, except for one with a publicist. I had to, of course, do a full police check and citizenship test, but they also make you do an entire medical exam to make sure you are mentally and physically fit to participate on the show.'

She also revealed she was required to get checks for 'every single STI including blood' and had to do 'mobility checks' during her medical examination. She said the application process lasted seven months.

Meanwhile, former contestant Amy Christophers revealed in an interview with Heat that she was fast-tracked through the application process when she appeared on MAFS in 2021.

Former contestant Amy Christophers previously told heat that when she appeared on the show in 2021, she was actually fast tracked. ‘I applied and the next day they phone me and they were like, “We love your application. We think you would be an ideal match for somebody we’ve already got.” So I was fast-tracked,' she said. 'There was a really long questionnaire – I think it’s meant to take five hours, or even longer. You have to do a narcissist or empath test, and then there’s questions about your family, what you’re like as a person, and just everything about relationships. Near the end, you also have psychologists making sure that you’re of sound mind to do it, because it’s not for the weak.’
