Blair, Serena, Chuck - is that you?! It has been over ten years since Gossip Girl's cameras stopped rolling but fans are now beside themselves because there's a chance they could be making a comeback.
The official social media accounts for the hit series shared a cryptic message last night (16 May) which read, 'Welcome back, Upper East Siders. After a long time away, I see it didn’t take much time for you to dirty up the clean slates I gave you. #GossipGirl'.
The tweet was accompanied by a photo of the main cast, which includes Penn Badgley, Blake Lively, Ed Westwick, Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen and Leighton Meester.
The cult series ran from September 2007 until December 2012 and was followed up with a standalone extension and sequel of the same name in 2021. It featured a different haul of stars but its popularity was not on the same scale as its predecessor's, resulting in the show being cancelled in January 2023 after only two seasons.
But lovers of the original show have pinned hopes on the beloved '07 cast returning to Manhattan for one last hurrah.
'WHAT DOES IT MEANNNN!' one confused fan wrote in response to the tweet.
Emphasising the want to see the original stars sharing the screen once more, another chimed in, 'If this has nothing to do with THE CAST IN THIS PICTURE you can KEEP IT'.
While a third tweeted, 'I don’t know what is happening, but I’m ready for everything'.
Gossip Girl spotlighted the lives of privileged teens living in Manhattan's Upper East Side, while their scandalous antics were being closely monitored by a mysterious yet all-knowing blogger.
Blake, who played protagonist Serena van der Woodsen, has previously appeared open to the idea of returning to one of her most well-known roles.
She told Varietyin 2017, 'I’ve just learned in life you never say never. I’m looking to do something that I haven’t done yet, not something that I did. But would I do that? Who knows - if it was good, if it made sense.'
Ed, who stepped into the shoes of lothario Chuck Bass, remained optimistic about the prospect to MailOnline.
He said, ''I wouldn't say no. It would be cool! I don't know if that's a direction they could go in though.'
While nothing has been confirmed, it has certainly got people speculating.
