The final four words had us on the edge of our seat:
‘Mom’, ‘Yeah’, ‘I’m pregnant’.
It was a wide-eyed, throw the popcorn on the floor, drool dripping out of our open mouths kind of ending. And its why fans everywhere are screaming for more Gilmore Girls asap. The cast however, are a tad more conflicted.
While any series ending on a cliff hanger is an absolute stab in the back for OG fans, Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel fear a second revival might be milking it abit too much. Alexis addressed the popcorn throwing ending at an Emmy contenders event hosted by Deadline on Sunday:
‘It's certainly not the ending I expected.’ Alexis told E! News. ‘I told Amy [Sherman-Palladino] I wanted Rory to end on a high note after all her hard work. I wanted her to succeed...so it was a hard thing for me to digest.’
Yet, both Alexis and Lauren aren’t convinced a second season would do the character’s justice.
‘Now it's become what could we do with this story that is satisfying, that is worth continuing. I don't know if there is a need to do more,’ Lauren said. ‘I would never want to make it feel like we've overstayed our welcome.’
‘We’re all just kinda grateful we got to do this.’ Alexis added. ‘To keep doing more just for the sake of it probably wouldn’t feel satisfying for anybody.’
This all sounds like too much pessimism to us ladies. Overstay your welcome as much as you like, we NEED more Rory and Lorelai. It was only last month we reportednews from the PA about ‘very preliminary’ talks with Netflix and the creators for a new season. Say ‘very’ all you like PA, we’re still going to assume it’s a done deal (we like to live in denial like that).
