What are we most excited for this Christmas? Copious amounts of Yorkshire puddings? Getting too drunk at the office Christmas party? Having to drag our delirious bodies to the polling station the next morning so we can decide the future of our country? Or… Are we most excited for the one-off return of Britain’s favourite sitcom{ =nofollow}, Gavin and Stacey? Sorry, not sorry, Boris, Jeremy and co - but we all know the answer. We just can’t wait to see what Nessa, Smithy, Gwen, Bryn and Neil (the baby) are up to.

However, while we wait for the Christmas special - Ruth Jones has teased us even more, actually switching on Barry’s Christmas lights as Nessa. It’s almost too good to be true, apart from it isn’t - because it actually happened this weekend. Nessa, looking tidy in a stripey top and black skirt, asked the packed crowd ‘what’s occurin’?’ before adding that it was ‘crackin’ to see everyone gathered around for the switch-on. ‘There are some lookers out here tonight,’ Ness continued. ‘A few exes in the crowd there I can see.’

In May, Jones and fellow showrunner James Corden finally revealed the news we’d all been waiting for – that, after nine years, they were bringing G&S back for a Christmas special. They said in a joint statement, ‘Over the last 10 years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey – where they might be today and what their lives might look like, and so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one-hour special. We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy.’

Gavin and Stacey is finally back on Christmas Day – and as Bryn would say, ‘Well I for one can’t wait. Not just for the Toblerone, but for the whole thing.’
