Everything I Know About Love is a seven-part drama based on the memoir by writer and podcaster Dolly Alderton. The series is directed by China Moo-Young, who has worked on everything from Humans to Call The Midwife.
The show is described as ‘an unflinching account of surviving your 20s’, and ‘Sex and the City for Millennials’. Set in a 2012 London house-share with flashbacks to suburban adolescence in the early noughties, the series is a deep dive into bad dates, heartaches and humiliations and begs the question: can platonic love survive romantic love as we grow up?
Dolly Alderton, former host of The High Low podcast, described it on Instagram as ‘a romantic comedy drama about female friendship. It’s got my whole entire heart in it and I cannot wait for you to meet these four girls.’ So… who are they?
Who Is Emma Appleton?
Emma plays Maggie, the lead character in the show. She looks like a cross between Dolly Alderton and Daisy Edgar-Jones in Normal People. We predict many more ill-advised fringes on British women. ‘What an absolute riot the past 4 months have been,’ Emma wrote on Instagram as filming wrapped. ‘A huge thank you to the kindest and most talented cast and crew, and @dollyalderton - thank you for being a living genius who writes from the heart and letting us be a part of it.’
Who is Bel Powley?
Bel stars as Birdy, Maggie’s childhood best friend. Their relationship is the beating heart of the show. Bel, who is engaged to actor Douglas Booth in real life, is the best-known of the fresh young cast, having starred in The Morning Show with Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, and The King of Staten Island with Pete Davidson.
Who is Aliyah Odoffin?
RADA-trained newcomer Aliyah makes her screen debut as Amara, one of Maggie and Birdy’s best mates. ‘It was a joy coming into work everyday with you all, I am very blessed,’ she wrote on Instagram at the end of filming. ‘I can’t wait for you all to meet these girls. Tell a friend to tell a friend!’
Who is Marli Siu?
Half Scottish, half Chinese Marli stars as Nell, Birdy’s younger sister and part of the gang. Most recently she starred in Our Ladies, a Scottish coming-of-age dramedy. She shared a picture of her castmates on Instagram declaring: ‘You’re gonna fancy them so much.’
Who is Connor Finch?
Another newcomer, Essex boy Connor is set to steal all of our hearts as Street, Maggie’s love interest. ‘Thank you for having me along for the best and wildest ride,’ he wrote on Instagram as filming wrapped. If the rumours that he is charismatic enough to be the new Connell are true, then his wild ride is just beginning.

BBC have now set a release date! The full season will be released on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on June 7.
