After the announcement that David Tennant is set to host the 77th annual EE British Academy Film award on 18 February, we’ve been eagerly anticipating the EE BAFTA 2024 nominations because they essentially provide us with a list of which films to watch for the next few months.

In 2023 – we have to remember that essentially the nominations consist of the films of last year and the beginning of this year - big blockbuster movies like Barbie and Oppenheimer prevailed, but what’s great about the EE BAFTAs is that smaller, indie flicks are also recognised.

Unsurprisingly the film with the most nominations is Oppenheimer - coming in hot with 13 nominations – closely followed by the Emma Stone-led film Poor Things with 11 nominations.

Speaking about the upcoming EE BAFTA ceremony, Sara Putt – Chair of BAFTA – says, ‘BAFTA’s mission is to celebrate best in British and global filmmaking so we are delighted to showcase 38 extraordinary films in this year’s EE BAFTA Film Award 2024 nominations.

‘BAFTA film voters are creatives, practitioners and film experts who represent all corners of the British and global film industry and they have been voting in their thousands having watched more hours of filmmaking than ever before. There are so many talented people both in front of, and behind the camera involved in bringing every BAFTA-nominated film to life and we look forward with excitement to celebrating their skill and creativity at the EE BAFTAs on 18 February.’
